Over 100 great nights out during an action-packed new season!
What's your idea of the perfect night out? An iconic rock or pop legend, laugh until you cry stand-up comedy, a captivating theatre production or the latest greatest 'must-see' show? There’s so much choice at Belfast Waterfront and the Ulster Hall during the bumper new season with over 100 great nights out this Autumn!
The new season moves swiftly into top gear this week with TitanicDance (13 - 14 September) - the all-new Irish dance and music spectacular that tells the story of the world’s most famous ship. From absorbing and electrifying music and dance to a rich slice of iconic pop culture, All Or Nothing: The Mod Musical (17 - 19 October) celebrates the unique sound of The Small Faces who encapsulated all that is Mod. Fans will recapture the spirit and emotion of genre-shaping songs like Itchycoo Park and the anthemic All Or Nothing.
Game for a laugh? Cool FM Comedy Club brings the latest, greatest stand-up stars to Belfast with another stellar line-up! Igniting the new Comedy Club season in style is Daniel Sloss (23 September) - Scotland’s internationally acclaimed stand-up and star of TV’s Conan. Also look out for unmissable comedy nights out with Stewart Lee (28 September), Henning Wehn (4 October), Joel Dommett (6 October), Tim McGarry (8 October), Jon Richardson (27 October), Shane Todd (2 and 4 November), Jason Byrne (5 November) and Colin Geddis (16 December).
Looking ahead to next year, Jake O’Kane (10 - 13 January), Foil, Arms & Hogg (11 January), Neil Delamere (27 January and 2 March), Colin Murphy (9 & 23 March) and Jimeoin (19 October) are already waiting in the Cool FM Comedy Club wings!
Away from Comedy Club, stand-up fans can also look forward to 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown star, David O’Doherty (20 October) and Reginald D Hunter (22 October). The Dolls Abroad (29 September) take their audience on the theatrical gutter-budget trip of a lifetime, with the comedy banter and sing-alongs for which ‘Scotland’s favourite Scrubbers’ are renowned!
There’s a trio of captivating theatre gems on the horizon! An undertaking war breaks out when a new player usurps Catholic and Protestant rivals with her cut-price new age funerals in Three’s A Shroud (4 - 21 October), the hilarious new theatrical comedy directed by Martin Lynch. Robin Williams - The Laughter and the Tears (30 September) is an emotional rollercoaster ride through the life of one of the world’s most loved stars. Marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, Centre Stage Theatre Company’s Luther (24 - 28 October) is the epic dramatisation of John Osborne’s award-winning and vivid portrayal of the sixteenth century monk.
The Waterfront and Ulster Hall consistently attracts an unrivalled choice of the biggest names in popular music… and the new season is no different!
Internationally regarded as one of the greatest singers of her generation, Joss Stone (10 October) showcases a selection of her hits and iconic songs by Burt Bacharach, all accompanied by a full live orchestra. Jools Holland (13 October) performs tracks spanning his entire solo career when he brings his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra to town. Fans of Zara Larsson (15 October) will make a beeline for one of the biggest and most exciting chart breakthrough artists of the year.
One of the all-time greatest rock legends, Robert Plant (2 December) plays the Ulster Hall - the venue where he performed Stairway to Heaven for the first time with Led Zeppelin. Formed during the glory days of post-grunge, Train (25 October) straddle the line between contemporary and alternative rock. Acoustic / alternative rock giants, Boyce Avenue (3 November) are now the world’s biggest band on YouTube. And get ready to rock with Alter Bridge (8 October) as they make their momentous return!
Pop and rock highlights also include rap superstar Nelly (22 November), award-winning alt-rock four piece, Wolf Alice (27 November), Belfast-born iconic dance / techno duo, BICEP (30 September), Chris Rea and The Divine Comedy (both 7 December), Imelda May (20 December), Gavin James (30 September) and Shane Filan (22 October). Alison Moyet (29 October) and London Grammar (2 November) are already sold out.
Some of Ireland’s top music stars are also Waterfront and Ulster Hall-bound, including Christy Moore (4 and 5 October), Cara Dillon (17 December) Donna Taggart (7 October), Irish supergroup, Bagatelle (29 December) and The High Kings (30 December).
Two of the finest male voices of our time will delight Belfast audiences!
The UK’s all-time best-selling classical crossover artist, Russell Watson (6 December), performs a stunning collection of Songs for the Heart along with tracks from his new album, while Aled Jones (30 November) sings A Night of Spiritual Hits.
From spine-tingling classical crossover to unmistakable music that truly captures the spirit ad magic of their respective eras. The Glenn Miller Orchestra (14 October) invite us to step back in time for a nostalgic concert of fabulous Forties music and classic wartime chart toppers. Featuring George Jones and Clubsound, Rock ‘n’ Roll Years and Dance Hall Days (28 and 29 December) transports us back to the nostalgic sounds of the Fifties and Sixties.
Classical music lovers will jump at a rare opportunity to witness the Mariinsky Orchestra (11 October), one of the world’s great symphony orchestras, conducted by its Artistic Director, the legendary Valery Gergiev. The European Doctors Orchestra and Choir (26 November) make their Belfast début and the Ulster Orchestra’s own season gets into full swing!
An orchestra of a very different kind, The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra
(7 October) promises an unforgettable night of music that is sometimes fast, sometimes furious and interspersed with haunting slow airs and lilting melodies!
‘Diversity’ is king at the Waterfront and Ulster Hall! So while aspiring cooks and chefs can look forward to The BBC Good Food Show (10 - 12 November), sports fans can contemplate witnessing 128 of the world’s finest snooker players in action at the Home Nations Series World Snooker Northern Ireland Open (20 - 26 November).
There’s a double bill of seasonal blockbuster family movies to look forward to on the Waterfront’s big, big screen! It’s all treats and no tricks as The Nightmare Before Christmas (28 October) brings spellbinding movie magic to Hallowe’en. Festive treats don’t come bigger than Home Alone (23 December) and families will love being part of Belfast’s biggest festive season movie audience!
‘Must see’ Christmas highlights include the Sleeping Beauty pantomime (6 December - 7 January), the best loved fairy tale of them all brought to life on stage! Families will also love Belfast’s biggest Christmas show, The Music Box (14 - 16 December) produced and presented by Peter Corry, with special guests, Pamela Ballantine, American musical theatre star, David Michael Johnson, classical crossover pianist, Ruth McGinley and an amazing local cast!
