Devonport Swim Club
Swim News – Term 1 2011
Hi everyone –
Again it is great to have so many new members, in particular our new 40 minute masters group.
Here are a few points about the club and reminders for those not so new.
BIRTHDAY BOY BEVAN!
Head coach Bevan is reaching a significant age TOMORROW (Thursday) so don’t forget to wish him well. Here are a few photos from the archives......
Aged 3puppy lovely...... (19) there was sport before triathlon! (21)
PAYMENT OVERDUE!!
To more serious matters ... please ensure you have paid your fees in full by this weekend. We have people on the waiting list and I’m afraid that if fees remain unpaid we will assume that you do not wish to swim this term and will start taking replacements from the top of the list.
PLACES CAN’T BE HELD
I reiterate that the committee’s policy is that if you stand down for a term you cannot ‘hold’ your place for a subsequent term but will need to go on the waiting list. Being a buddy swimmer does not hold your place for coached sessions.
LEAVES IN POOL
Navy has advised me that its automatic cleaning machine is broken at present which explains the leaves etc on the bottom of the pool. They are currently cleaning manually and endeavouring to source another cleaner.
NO SWIMMING 7 MARCH
Navy has also requisitioned the pool for 7 March so there will be no swimming that day (Monday). I’ll email a reminder closer to the time.
JUNIOR NEWS
NEW SQUADS
As part of our ongoing evaluation of demand and the services we can provide within the constraints of our licence and the depth/length of the pool, we have reconfigured our junior squads into two sessions; junior and intermediate fitness. Both allow our juniors to swim up to 3 times per week in coached sessions. It’s great to see an enthusiastic bunch turning up to these squads and there is still limited space available particularly in the intermediate fitness group.
If you know of someone who is interested feel free to refer them to Bevan for a trial. As a guide...
Junior fitness swimmers need to have reached a level of competence in their technique and fitness that enables them to swim at least 1km and to be proficient in all strokes. They should already have swum at squad level at another swim school and be at least 10 years old.
Intermediate fitness swimmers are generally teenagers with similar competencies, swimming at least 1.5km in the 40 minute session.
GALA
We will hold our Junior Swim Gala on the morning of Sunday 10 April – please mark your diaries. More info will follow.
SPECTATORS WANTED!
