Just Drop-In Youth Info & Advice

Macclesfield, Cheshire

Just Drop-In (JDI) is a free and confidential one-stop service for young people aged 12 – 25, providing information, advice and counselling. It was launched in November 2001 as a new initiative of the Christian Churches in Macclesfield and works in partnership with other voluntary and statutory bodies, including Cheshire East Youth Services. It is run by a board of Trustees, a full time Manager, A Volunteer Co-ordinator, a part time Counsellor, an Apprentice Business Administrator and a team of approximately 40 volunteers. Just Drop-Inis a voluntary organisation with charitable status and has a highly regarded range of services supported by local authority contracts and grants from a range of nationally recognised funders.

Overall purpose of the job

To lead Just Drop-In’s staff and volunteers to deliver the highest quality support services to the young people of Macclesfield.

Further Responsibilities and Tasks

  • To maximise the impact Just Drop-In has on young people's lives through the services we provide.
  • To lead and motivate the staff & volunteers to deliver Just Drop-In’s values and co-ordinate the activities undertaken within the Centre
  • To manage the budgets and lead the financial health of Just Drop-In
  • Network & promote Just Drop-In with Cheshire East Council and other organisations that donate funds
  • To ensure Health & Safety and Safeguarding standards
  • Appropriate and timely reporting to the trustees and help deliver the strategic goals of the charity
  • Work with the Trustees in identifying sources of funding and assist in applications.
  • Help create an environment within which all involved – volunteers, professionals and young people - are at harmony with each other for the benefit of those who use the facilities
  • Promote awareness of Just Drop-In within the community through the use of publicity & active marketing
  • Maintain relationships with all existing stakeholder organisations (e.g. voluntary organisations, community groups, churches, schools).
  • Inform the organisation of the demand and supply of the young people’s needs, providing statistics and monitoring trends
Personal Specification

Qualifications and experience:

The ideal candidate will have

  • A qualification to degree level in a subject relevant to the position
  • Proven youth, voluntary or care sector skills
  • Experience of working with disadvantaged young people
  • Experience in fundraising, commissioning and VCFS networking
  • Management experience of leading a small team including budget control and management reporting
  • A knowledge and flair for understanding outcomes and articulating them to funders.
Essential Skills / Knowledge
  • Ability to engage with and motivate people across all levels of the organisation
  • Knowledge of H&S plus Safeguarding requirements
  • Leadership and management of a team
  • Ability to network with a range of people and agencies
  • Organisation & communication skills
  • Budget control
  • Time management
  • Computing sills – Microsoft Office etc
Desirable Skills / Knowledge
  • Comfortable working with diverse groups of people in a variety of activities
  • Experience of working with confidential issues.
Project Management reporting
  • A desire for learning and progression
  • Experience of using outcome tools and collecting outcome data
  • Experience of bid writing, commissioning and fundraising
  • Delivering services through volunteers

Salary – £24,000 - £28,000p/a depending on experience

Holiday - 25 days annual leave plus 8 days public holidays

Pension – Just Drop-In will contribute 5% to an agreed pension scheme after a probationary period.
