Job Title: Coffee Shop Manager

Location: 125 High Street, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. B61 8AE

Responsible to: Head of Business Development

Responsible for: Team Supervisor

Salary: £ 21,200 pa & excellent staff benefits

Contract: Permanent Full Time – 40 hours per week

Hours: 8:00 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Saturday

9:30 am to 4:30 pm Sundays

(Note: This includes rotated weekend working and occasional evenings)

About Us: BDRC Enterprises Community Interest Company is a newly incorporated company formed by the Disability Resource Centre (DRC) a registered charity. This permits any profits made by its businesses to be reinvested into the charity to help fund the essential services they deliver. The coffee shop is the first of three we intend to open and operate for the benefit of DRC.

DRC is one of the leading disability organisations operating in Birmingham, Solihull and the wider Midlands Region, its’ mission is to “Support disabled people and those with long term health conditions to take control of their own lives and to actively seek out opportunities to achieve their full potential as individuals in mainstream society.”

Job Outline: We are looking to recruit an experienced Coffee Shop Manager with enthusiasm, a positive attitude and of course a passion for coffee.

You will have overall responsibility for the performance of the shop ensuring the growth of the business by increasing sales, controlling costs and building a loyal customer base through excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate will be proactive and be able to deliver high operational and compliance standards.

Relevant management experience is a must and the initiative to contribute to the development of the offer to maximise customer enjoyment and profit is essential.

Key Tasks:

1.  Managing Personnel

The manager will be responsible for ensuring that the coffee shop has sufficient, qualified staff through recruitment, training and effective management of staff hours and ensuring cover for absent staff.

Additionally you will set job objectives and evaluate the staffs’ performance against these through regular team meetings and appraisals.

2.  Handling Finances

The manager will be accountable for the day to day finances of the coffee shop; reporting against daily and monthly sales targets and controlling expenditure in line with the set budget.

You will work closely with DRC’s Finance and monitoring manager to ensure financial procedures are adhered to.

3.  Managing Stock

The manager is responsible for the stock. This will include the ordering and control of food products, consumables and equipment. It is important to anticipate required stock levels during the slow and busy trading periods and ensuring that any special events are catered for correctly.

Implementation of a strict regime regarding, portion control and food waste through regular stock takes and recording of wastage is essential; as is the supervising of deliveries, cross checking all delivery items against the related order and managing the payment of invoices in a timely fashion.

4.  Monitoring Compliance

The manager will be responsible for the shops’ compliance with all regulations relating to food preparation & storage; environmental health requirements; the health & safety of staff, customers any on-site contractors and all fire regulations. Written records must be kept updated and made easily accessible for the associated inspections.

5.  Providing Customer Service

Along with managing and motivating the team and running the coffee shop the manager must ensure they and all staff deliver an excellent customer experience that is welcoming, efficient and personable.

You will need to deal with customer complaints such pricing, poor quality of the food or beverages or poor customer service in a responsible, caring and effective way, never compromising the dignity of the customer or the brand and reputation of the coffee shop.

6.  Business Development

This is a new venture and the first of a potential three shops. The manager will be expected to contribute to the growth of the business by identifying poor sellers, new products etc. and make adjustments to the menu and environment to reflect customer tastes, needs and company profit.

You will also need to engage with our customer base to identify any activities or events we could facilitate on site to maximize usages and increasing sales whilst also contributing to the social values of DRC & BDRC Enterprises CIC

Other Tasks:

1.  To ensure your own continuing professional development. You will need to keep up to date with news and developments in the coffee / hospitality sector and improve your awareness of trends through reading trade and industry journals and attending events

2.  To work effectively as part of the team and be flexible and responsive to changing customer needs and BDRC Enterprises CIC.

3.  To undertake any other delegated duties as may be required from time to time, which are commensurate with the nature and grading of the post.
