Community Sports Development Officer – Full Time

Broxburn United Sports Club (BUSC) was formed in 2007 to develop and deliver sporting programmes within the local community. The facility opened in 2010 and provides inclusive sporting and social activities for all ages and abilities, seven days a week. The club is currently run by a board of nine trustees and three permanent staff, as well as a number of local volunteers/coacheswho are vital to the success of the organisation.

BUSC are looking for a highly motivated individual who wishes to work in ourgrowing community sports club.

The Role

Working with partners across Broxburn and associated cluster communities you will design , develop and deliver a community sport and physical activity programme for children and young people at BUSC and other partner venues.

It is important that the post-holder can develop strong partnerships and networks to further the reach of the club, ensuring plans are aligned to organisational aims and objectives.

Responsibilities

As the Community Sports Development Officer, you will be responsible for :

Developing effective working relationships with key partners including local schools, Active Schools and youth organisations & West Lothian Council Sport Development Officers to improve and further develop any existing programmes and activities.

To promote the use of the facilities at BUSC and to organise and deliver programmes and events/festivals to promote sport and physical activity opportunities, for children and young people.

Encourage young people to become involved in sports club activities

Work with the local community to identify demand for the provision of additional sports at BUSC and take the appropriate steps & action to meet this demand.

Develop and promote a weekly out of school sports club

Listen to and engage with young people who are not currently physically active and develop a broad range of opportunities to suit their needs. This will include young people who are disadvantaged economically or through a disability.

Working with Broxburn Academy, assist and support with the opportunity 15-16 year olds to sign-up for and work towards junior Sports Leader’s awards

Listen to and engage with young girls, providing opportunities for them to participate in sport and physical activities & encourage the development of additional activities/sports for them.

Record relevant management information, as required accurately & on time each day/week/month.

Help BUSC to deliver its social aims & objectives, to make a difference within the local community.

Work in the heart of the community to develop an accurate appreciation & understanding of the local sport and physical activity needs and how BUSC can best make a positive impact.

Person Specification

Relevant Experience/Qualifications
  • A sports degree or equivalent level of qualification/experience
  • Scottish FA Advanced Children’s licence or UEFA B licence (essential)
  • Full Driving Licence (essential)
  • Enhanced Disclosure satisfactorily approved (through PVG) (essential)

Skills & Abilities
  • Understanding and ability to assist with coaching or the provision of coaching across a range of sports
  • Well developed verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent planning & organisation (including time management) skills.
  • Ability to build & maintain effective working relationships.
  • A proven track record of coaching sport to young people. (desirable)
  • Knowledge & experience of working with young people and volunteers in the youth sector and/or a sport’s based environment.
  • Can be relied upon, is dependable and trust worthy – an excellent role model.
  • Knowledge & understanding of sports development pathways (desirable)
  • Knowledge & understanding of the positive impact sport can have on social targets (desirable)
  • Knowledge of local community (desirable)
  • Analytical and problem solving skills

Community Sports Development Officer

Responsible to: Board Member – Community Sports Development Officer

Time requirement:Full Time, 37½ hours p/w

The job holder should be prepared to work outside normal working hour, ie: evenings and

weekends , as required.

Contract Basis: 1 year contract

Salary: range £25-£26k p.a (depending on experience)

Standard benefits including 20 days annual leave entitlement.

Location:You will be based at Albyn Park, Broxburn however the role will involve regular travel across Scotland.
