Frequently Asked Questions

These Frequently Asked Questions have been produced by the NESTI Programme*[1] for Newcastle University. NESTI is working with the University to roll out a multi-function card (‘Student Card’) that can be used as a Student Card around the University campus as well as a travel card. NESTI will work with the University, Nexus and other public transport operators in the North East to increase the number of products and services that the Student Card is able to access. Further information will be circulated as and when these products and services are made available.

Q. How does the new Student Card work?

A. The new Student Card has been designed so that it is compatible with both Newcastle University and NESTI. You can use it around University as you did your previous Student Card eg. as a library card and to access University buildings.

The Student Card uses a technological specification called ITSO which is endorsed by the Department for Transport. Look out for two notable visual additions to the Student Cards which are:

The NESTI logo which is a symbol informing you where your Student Card can be accepted to access products and services; and

The ITSO number which is the Student Card’s unique identifier.
