Habitat for Humanity: SLU chapter
Constitution
Article I – Name
The name of this organization is Habitat for Humanity.
Article II – Mission Statement
The St. Lawrence University chapter of Habitat for Humanity, chartered in November 1991, is a part of an International organization that believes that safe, affordable housing is a right, not a privilege. The SLU chapter works in conjunction with the Raquette Valley Affiliate that serves St. Lawrence County. Student volunteers commit to finding ways to improve the living conditions of the local community and, during spring breaks, around the country. Through these experiences, students learn valuable leadership and organizational skills. By building structures, conduction fundraisers, and interacting with the St. Lawrence County and national communities, SLU students are able to expand their education past the academic realm.
Habitat for Humanity does not require any construction experience, allowing anyone to participate. Not only are SLU students involved, but local community members as well as experienced professionals volunteer their time in order to give back to the neighborhood. Habitat allows students to learn something new, help others, and work together to produce something much bigger than themselves. Habitat for Humanity is well established on campus as well as at the local community. We plan to continue working with every interested SLU student and the local population to help others find a possible route to living in a sustainable community development in St. Lawrence County.
Article III – Membership
Habitat for Humanity is open to all fully matriculated, undergraduate students of St. Lawrence University.
