JOIN IN THE SPRING 2014 GIEI SEED SWAP!

Here is information about how to participate in the seed swap: where to drop off and swap your seeds, seed categories, and how to package and label your saved seeds.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: Everyone! This year Master Gardeners are invited to the GIEI Seed Swap.

WHERE TO DROP OFF AND SWAP

Drop off your seed packets when you arrive in the lobby of the Activity Center at the Extension Office in Derwood. There will be a special table staffed by a Master Gardener to collect your seeds. We will give you a paper with the number of seed packets you bring in to swap. Please bring seeds dated 2010 to 2014.

The seed exchange will take place at the Seed Swap tables in the center of the Multi-Purpose room (the large room on the main floor).

TIME: The initial seed exchange will begin at 11:15 am and will run until all the seeds have been swapped. There will be time before the swap begins to preview the seeds available to swap.

SEED CATEGORIES: Tomatoes, other vegetables, herbs, annual flowers, perennial flowers, natives, exotics, woodies (trees and shrubs), and cover crops.

TYPES OF SEED PACKETS: Your own saved seed packets, unopened commercial packets, and opened commercial packets.

HOW TO PACKAGE: If using your own saved seeds, put them in a re-sealable plastic baggie or small paper envelope. We will have additional paper envelopes available in case you want to open the seed packets and trade with each other or split the contents of a packet.

NUMBER OF SEEDS: About 10-20 seeds per packet, if possible.

INFO NEEDED ON LABEL FOR SAVED SEEDS

Minimum: Plant name (common and/or scientific), date collected, and seed category: tomatoes, other vegetables, herbs, annual flowers, perennial flowers, natives, exotics, woodies (trees and shrubs), and cover crops.

Additional: Growing conditions (sun, soil, and water needs), where you collected the seeds or purchased them, height of mature plant, and your name, if desired.

WHAT IF YOU DIDN'T BRING SEEDS?? We may have enough seeds remaining to open up the swap to everyone at the end of the event, so make sure you stay until 12:45 pm!
