CCS is a not-for-profit community organization that develops and provides a continuum of support services, primarily for Anglophone families and individual, regardless of race, age, gender, religion, or language. Our “Early Head Start” program is a school readiness program, based on the philosophy that parents play a vital role in the lives of their children. We believe a child’s success in school relies primarily on a healthy relationship between parent and child.
Position Description:
The Early Childhood Educator & Program Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, development and implementation of a series of activities for parents with children 0-5 years old, based on the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs of both the child and parents. Our goal is to help better prepare children for school and to improve the quality of life for children and parents who may be isolated and economically disadvantaged.
Title: Early Childhood Educator & Program Coordinator
Salary: $11.00 to $14.00/hour, according to experience and qualifications
Accountability/ Employer: Community Development Worker, CCS Community Services
Location: Work locations are Orchard Elementary School (LaSalle) and CCS head office (downtown Montreal)
Work Schedule:This is a contractual part-time position for 28 hours a week. Classes run from September to June, and are offered four mornings a week. Classes are at Orchard Elementary School and program planning takes place in the afternoon at head office (parking is available). The anticipated start date is January/ February 2013 and end date is June 2013 (maternity leave).
Specific Responsibilities:
1. To animate and facilitate the classes and supervise the program.
- To design and implement an educational lesson plan and a weekly calendar of activities.
- To record daily activities and maintain attendance records.
- To identify the needs of participants, while planning strategies to adequately respond to those needs.
- To provide developmentally appropriate behavior modification techniques for children and their parents.
- To ensure the health and safety of children and parents.
- To provide information and referrals to parents, if needed.
- To attend trainings/workshops, by request.
Shared Responsibilities:
- Help conduct outreach activities to increase participation in the program, and assist with grant applications and annual reports.
- Represent CCS at community functions and events.
- Share the supervision of volunteers and/or students from participating college and university programs.
- Share the responsibility of administrative and clerical duties, such as registration, attendance collection, maintenance of participation lists, purchasing of program supplies, etc.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Special Care Counselling, Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure Studies, Child Studies, Early Childhood Education, or related studies or equivalent work-related experience.
- Experience working with children 0-5 years old, in a group setting.
- Must be able to function as a member of a team as well as independently.
- Knowledge of community resources particularly in LaSalle.
- Self-starter, autonomous.
- CPR certified/Background check.
