FIRST ANNUAL COMMUNITY EDUCATION FAIR AND OPENING OF EL CAMINO COMMUNITY CENTER
Lompoc Unified School District (LUSD) is excited to announce the grand opening and kick off of El Camino Community Center! El Camino Adult School is transitioning into a multi-dimensional facility focused on meeting the needs of a diverse population of adult learners.
The intent of the school district for transitioning El Camino School into a community center is for a number of reasons. First, as a school district and organization, we want to be efficient with our resources and facilities. Secondly, with our new leadership in the district wanting to be as responsive as possible to our community, it makes sense to re-imagine this center (centrally located) as a place for our community to access resources. It is our responsibility to provide our students with the best education possible and to be responsive to the needs of our parents and community. By having a community center, we can do just that.
The following resources/organizations will be housed at the LUSD El Camino Community Center.
1. California School Age Families Education (CalSAFE) - The CalSAFE Center provides services to pregnant teenagers and teenage parents who are enrolled at all area high schools. Parents qualify for the program until age 19; children qualify while they are 0-5 years of age.
2. Center for Employment Training (CET) – CET is one of the most successful training programs in the nation. Center for Employment Traininghas always been a place where thewholeperson is the focus. Since its humble beginnings, CET has brought togetherpeople wanting to work and those wanting the best workers.
3. El Puente Community School - El Puente Community School provides credit-recovery courses and support for students who want to return to and graduate from their schools of residence.
4. Lompoc Adult School – The Lompoc Adult School has been a highly regarded provider of learning opportunities for English Language Learners, post high school diplomas (G.E.D.), and enrichment programs such as CPR for many years.
5. Migrant Preschool and State Preschool
The Migrant and State Preschools provide educational, health, and social support services to eligible children.
6. Workforce Investment Board (WIB) - The Workforce Investment Board is dedicated to serving the workforce needs of businesses, adults, laid-off workers, and youth throughout Santa Barbara County.
7. National College of Technical Instruction (NCTI) - The nation’s largest paramedic school & EMS training college
This is only the beginning of this transition process for LUSD to strengthen the connection, communication, and collaboration as partners in learning with our community.
