Joboutline

The university has a portfolio of about 500 courses and about 4000 modules, the details of which need to be available to academic and professional staff across the university and to prospective and current students. All courses and modules are subject to quality assurance processes for their approval and review. Significantly, the university is also embarking on a full review of its portfolio and curriculum design principles.

TheProjectManager isresponsiblefor the management of the work required to deliver a single curriculum management system for the university so that there is one definitive source of curriculum information for the university that can be used by all stakeholders.

Theroleholderwill be based in the Quality and Standards division which is responsible for managing the university’s Quality Assurance and Enhancement (QAE) Framework which comprises policies and processes designed to secure the quality and standards of the university’s awards, but will work closelywithsenior academic and administrativebusiness processownersandserviceusersfromacademicSchools, Academic Services,Marketing and Communications, SPPO and other centraldepartmentsto understandandanalysetheir requirementsandconstraints.Theroleholder willbe expectedto workautonomouslymanaging the work ofaprojectteamand willbe responsiblefor definingtheirownprioritiesandmanagingtheir workloadtoensurethatdeadlinesfor key projectdeliverablesaremet.

Theroledemands extensiveunderstanding of the context and challenges of curriculum management in higher education, especially as processes and systems have developed in a devolvedmanagementstructure, and in the light of strategic reviews of the portfolio and curriculum structure that are taking place.

They will be expected to have previousexperience of implementing curriculum management processes and systems in order to demonstrate a sufficient personal and project management skill set to deliverthis project with associated policy and process change at the University of Brighton.

Mainareasof responsibility:

To understand and analyse therequirementsandconstraintsofbusinessservice and end users involved in curriculum management, and resolve these and designnewbusinessprocessesrequiredtodeliver the project. / 25%
Establishandmaintaineffectiveworkingrelationshipswithsenior academicandadministrativemanagers,servicemanagers,and otherstakeholderstounderstandthecomplexandinterdependent needsfor curriculum management attheuniversity, including those of students, in order to shape the solution / 25%
Takeresponsibilityfor developing and managing theeffectivedelivery and reporting of the projectplan,andthemanagementofitswork. / 25%
Toleadonprojectimplementationandrolloutofnewsystemsand businessprocessesacrosstheuniversity. / 25%

Skills

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent application of theoretical knowledge
  • Considerable work experience of an analytical nature.
  • Proven experience of managing projects, or proven curriculum project management experience
  • Comprehensiveknowledgeof curriculum management, and related quality assurance processes and internal and external information requirements.
  • Proven record of delivery in businessprocess improvements and a commitmenttodeliveringahigh-qualityservice;understandsservice-userneedsandabletoadapt servicesaccordingly.
  • Successful negotiator, contributingpositivelytothedecision-makingofothers
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate complex information both verbal and written, to write clear and concise reports, and demonstrating sensitivity and diplomacy when communicating difficult information
