Members – School Teachers’ Review Body

Deadline extended to 20 March 2017

The School Teachers’ Review Body (STRB) is an independent body which makes recommendations to the Government on the pay and conditions of school teachers in England and Wales.

The STRB assesses evidence from Government and organisations representing schools and the teacher workforce, and visits schools and local authorities to develop its understanding of issues facing teachers. In recent years, the STRB has been asked to report on a variety of matters, including establishing a stronger link between teachers’ pay and performance, and providing greater flexibilities for governing bodies to produce individual pay policies for their schools.

The STRB is now seeking to fill two vacancies and is looking to recruit members with:

·  the ability to operate at a strategic level within a complex organisation in the private, public or voluntary sector;

·  an understanding of pay, remuneration, performance management and reward issues and an appreciation of the policy, financial and operational constraints that impact on remuneration decisions; and

·  an understanding of the policy context of the STRB’s work, including public sector reward issues.

These positions will provide an influential and intellectually stimulating challenge for the right individuals, who will contribute to the recruitment, retention and motivation of an effective teacher workforce. As a member of the STRB you will bring your own expertise, alongside a high degree of analytical ability, strong communication skills and, ideally, an appreciation of public sector reward issues.

These are ministerial appointments and will initially be for up to three years. The time commitment for each position is approximately 25 days per year, for which an attendance allowance of £300 per day is payable, along with reimbursement for reasonable travel and subsistence costs.

The closing date for applications is Noon on Monday 20 March 2017. Details of how to apply are contained in the information pack for applicants. Please note there may be a period of a month between the application closing date and candidates being invited to interview.

Appointments will be made on merit following an open, fair and transparent competition.

We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments made on merit.
