The Tulsa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. proudly presents to you: Delta Academy II: Delta GEMS. Delta GEMS, “Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully” is a program that targets young women in grades 9-12th or ages 14-18. The primary focus of the program is to mentor young women who are interested in developing skills to achieve dreams and success through various tasks while demonstrating positive attitudes.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913 at Howard University by 22 dynamic undergraduate women. These young women were determined to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to those in need.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization with the purpose of providing services and programs that promote human welfare. The major programs of the sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:

Five-Point Programmatic Thrust

Political Awareness and Involvement

Through this program, the Ladies of the Tulsa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. would like to focus on goals such as:

1.  To instill in our young women the need to excel academically.

2.  To provide tools that will enable our girls to enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success.

3.  To assist our young women in proper goal setting and planning for their futures; high school and beyond.

4.  To create compassionate, caring, and community minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.

5.  To instill in our young women the importance of a positive self image.

The five major components of the Delta GEMS program are Sisterhood, Scholarship, Show Me the Money, Service, and Infinitely Complete. Delta GEMS can be used as a road map for college and career planning. Each component is designed to provide interactive lessons and activities that provide opportunities for self-reflecting and individual growth. The topics within the components include but are not limited to:

self-esteem building; personal health; developing healthy relationships; how to take notes and study; career planning; completing college applications; dressing for success; interviewing for a job; and writing a job resume.
