Dear Parents and Guardians of Eighth Graders:
It is my pleasure to share with you the calendar of special end-of-the-year events planned for our eighth grade students. Attached to this letter is a permission slip for Cedar Point and for Recognition Day.
EIGHTH GRADE SOCIAL
The End-of-the-Year Eighth Grade Socialwill be held on Friday, May 18from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Middle School Gym area. This event is free for all 8th grade Shaker Middle School students only, but students must register in advance. Registration will be available during lunch periods in the cafeteria over the next few weeks. Dressy/casual and Sunday dress is appropriate. Light refreshments will be served.Students must attend school on Friday, May 18 in order to be eligible to attend the social event in the evening.
EIGHTH GRADE ACADEMIC AWARD CEREMONY
The 8th grade academic award ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:00 PM in the Shaker Middle School auditorium. Eighth grade students may receive a wide range of academic awards in all subject areas. Award recipients and their families will receive invitations to the awards ceremony in advance.
RECOGNITION DAY REHEARSAL
Our Recognition Day Program rehearsal will be held on Monday, June 4 at the beginning of the day. Students who are in danger of being retained will not be permitted to participate in the rehearsal.
CEDAR POINT TRIP
The Cedar Point trip is on Monday, June 4. Students will leave immediately after the Recognition Day ceremony rehearsal ends, at 9:30 AM. Students will return to the Middle School at approximately 8:30 PM for pickup by parents. The cost of this trip is $40.00 payable by money order or online atnet/ only (no cash). Payment and permission slips are due by Friday, May 25. Students who have outstanding student activities fees will not be eligible to attend, nor will students who are in danger of being retained. Please call the main office with questions.
RECOGNITION DAY PROGRAM
Our Recognition Day Program honoring our eighth graders will take place on Tuesday, June 5, at 8:15 AM. Doors will open at 7:45 AM, and seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Please be sensitive to our limited seating capacity.There will be overflow seating in a music classroom with closed circuit TV coverage. Students who are in danger of being retained will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony. Please note that parents and families are not permitted to park at the Bertram Woods Library. Following the ceremony, all participants and family members are invited to attend a light reception sponsored by our PTO.
Tuesday, June 5 is a full day of school. However, students are permitted to leave school after the Recognition Day Ceremony with their families. Attached to this letter is a sign out permission slip that must be returned to 8th grade Team Leaders by Friday, May 25. Students who do not return the attached permission slip will follow a regular school day schedule after the conclusion of the Ceremony. If you have any questions, please contact your guidance counselor.
