The Role of the Support Contact Person

A 2 day Training Programme for staff taking on the role of Support Contact Person

Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26thSeptember 2013

Venue: The Rape Crisis Centre, 70 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2.

The aim of this training is to enable participants to become familiar with the role of the Support Contact Person and to develop the knowledge and the skills to take on this role. The course content is both theoretical and experiential with plenty of opportunityfor participants to develop the skills necessary for the role through the medium of roleplay and case studies.Those in the role of co-ordinator of a Support Contact panel might also benefit from attending this training.

As a result of this training participants will :

  • Have a clear understanding of what is meant by Bullying, Harassment and Sexual Harassment and the established Definitions
  • Be aware of the Impact of Bullying, Harassment and Sexual Harassment on the individual and the organisation
  • Have an understanding of the Law in relation to Bullying, Harassment and Sexual Harassment
  • Be familiar with recommended Dignity at Work Policy and Procedures to address issues of bullying and harassment, and be able to apply this to understand their own organisation’s policy and procedures.
  • Be clear about the Role of the Support Contact Person and about the boundaries of the role
  • Be sensitive to the concerns and fears of the staff member coming to them for support, and be aware of the helpful qualities of the Support Contact Person
  • Appreciate the value of real listening
  • Develop skills in facilitating and know how to structure the meeting/s with a staff member.
  • Have the awareness and skills necessary to provide support for the person accused of bullying or harassment
  • Understand the practical issues in relation to the role.

The fee for this training is €490 per delegate. There is a reduced fee of €190 for delegates from voluntary organisations

Comprehensive written documentation is provided for each delegate to act as a resource to them while in the role.
