Conduct a Physical Training Meet
A High School JROTC unitwill conduct aPhysical Training meet usingCadet Challenge events.For this you will need an area to run the mile, preferably a track, and an area to conduct push-ups, shuttle-run, curl-ups, and V-sit. You will need mats for sit-ups and mats with marked measurements for the V-sit. The purpose is to provide a competition between all JROTC programs in the area.
This mission will be conducted in three phases; Preparation Phase, Competition Phase, and Post-Meet phase.
Phase I- Preparation phase: Contact local recruiters, National Guard, USAR units, and College ROTC departments for possible graders at least six months before. Prepare Warning order to inform other schools about date, time, and events six months before. Send out OPORD NLT 1 month before. Identify equipment needed for the event at least one month out. Ensure equipment is on hand at least one week out. Identify cadets with asthma/allergies and insure they have proper medical equipment. Make grading rubrics one week before and identify runners for the event. Prepare event stations with appropriate equipment and distances, and set up water stations the day of the event.
Phase II- Competition Phase: Conduct Physical Training IAW Presidential Physical Fitness Test standards. Conduct demonstrations for each event: push-ups, shuttle-run,curl-ups, and V-sit.Issue graders their grading rubrics to complete throughout the meet while evaluating each team on each event. Runners will take rubrics to grading table to be tallied by cadet leadership. Conduct all events in a safe manner. Conduct award ceremony with teams in formation by schools. Dismiss when done.
Phase III- Post-Meet Phase: Collect the equipment off the field and track. Take inventory and secure equipment in equipment room.Conduct trash detail of entire area.Conduct an After Action Report to identify the pros and cons of the event. After identifying what needs to be improved, identify viable solutions for the problem. Update cadets’ records in JUMS that participated in this event.
Task to staff elements:
S1- Administrative Officer: Identify cadets who cannot participate. Update JUMS with the cadets that competed in the meet.
S2- Security Officer: Submit Risk Assessment. Identify possible problem areas that could affect event’s success.
S3- Operations Officer: Find graders for the event. Make grading rubrics. Coordinate with S4 on equipment needed for each event (stop watches, clipboards,cones, and jerseys to identify each team). Establish time lines for each event. Prepare Warning Order, Operations Order, and schedule for schools. Prepare event areas.
S4- Logistics Officer: Procure needed supplies and ensure that all supplies are on hand. Inventory all supplies when returned. Ensure enough ribbons are available for the participants and order trophies and awards one month before the event. Ensure water coolers with ice, water, and cups are placed at strategic locationsbefore the meet.
S5-Public Relations Officer: Ensure each JROTC unit in the area knows about the event. Take pictures at the event and update newsletter. Submit pictures to the local newspaper. Update activities book and scrapbook.
S6-Communications Officer: Update the website to include dates of the event and post pictures after the event.
Conclusion: The end result will be the successful competition between area schools in a physical training meet. All winning teams will receive trophies for the events that are won. There will also be trophies for overall winners. Schools will be dismissed following the ceremony.
