ESEA FLEXIBILITY WAIVER PARENT NOTIFICATION

NON SCHOOL DESIGNATION

2014-2015

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 requires that parents or guardians who have children attending a Title I school be notified of how well their school is preparing its students for college and/or a career, as well as the school’s designation status under Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver.

Under Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver, certain Title I schools are designated as Reward, Priority, Focus, or Alert schools. The Waiver also allows the use of the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), which serves as a comprehensive report card for all schools in Georgia. The CCRPI provides a score between 0-100 for each school, and that score measures how well the school is doing in preparing its students to be successful in college and/or a career.

The 2012 Study Year CCRPI reports were released on May 7, 2013. They have been updated to reflect the indicator language and calculation changes utilized for the 2013 CCRPI reports. These updates provide an “apples to apples” comparison between the CCRPI reports for the 2012 and 2013 school years. Our school was given a score off 68.4 in 2012 and a score or 74.7 in 2013.These score results can be located on the Georgia Department of Education website at http://www.gadoe.org.

I am very proud to tell you that Powder Springs Elementary has not been given a school designation this year, which means we are continuing to provide a quality education to all of our students.

The students at Powder Springs Elementary demonstrated proficiency on the CRCT 2013-2014 by reaching and exceeding the current state targets for student achievement in the area of reading and language arts (88%). In the area of math, 72% of our students met or exceeded standards, which was a decrease in student performance from the previous year. Based on last year’s data, we are implementing strategies and interventions to support math instruction and improve student learning.

At Powder Springs Elementary, we take pride in the educational opportunities we are able to provide for our children. Our teachers and staff members work very hard to meet the needs of all students to ensure academic success. We have evidence that students are learning and making good progress, and we consider this to be an important indicator of success.

As we are achieving in many areas, we also know there is always room for improvement. An important part of our success is parent participation and support in developing activities to improve student achievement. We hope that as a parent/guardian, you will become involved in our school improvement initiatives as we continue to monitor student achievement and set high expectations. If you are interested in participating in developing our school improvement initiatives so we can continue to excel, contact Debbie Broadnax, Principal at (770) 222-3746 or .

Thank you for all that you do to support your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Debbie Broadnax
