The Creatives

The Creative Emmys were fun. I have one behind the scene story you might enjoy. If you're going to watch the Creatives (Saturday, Sept. 18th, on E) you may want to skip to the third paragraph. However, I know nobody cares about the Creative Emmys, so read on. Penn and Teller come out and do "The National Magic Trick." Everyone rises in reverence for it (like it's the national anthem or something). Of course, we, the audience, were prompted to do so, but that's not all. Each person in the audience does the same magic trick, in unison, that Penn & Teller does on stage.
The cameras stopped taping while the audience learned the trick. Guess who explained it. That's right, the silent one, Teller (his full legal name). Penn's full name is Penn Jillette. The props we needed for the trick were hidden behind the cushion of our seats. Teller explained what to do. There were prompts on giant screens telling us what to say while performing the trick. We rehearsed it a couple of times and then they rolled tape. Tune in to see what happened.

DanCastellanetareceived his third Emmy for the voice of HomerSimpson. He did a few jokes as Homer. It was odd hearing that voice coming from a real person. I attached a picture if you want to see the face behind the cartoon.

WilliamShatner won Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series. I must say, I got pretty close look at him and his rug is pretty darn good. His hair is cut fairly close on the sides and the rug is hard to detect. Maybe Priceline.com paid for him to get a better toupee.

SharonStone won Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series. She is starting to show her age a little bit but considering she is 46 and had a brain hemorrhage three years ago, she looks very good.

There are a couple of new items that were added to the Emmy page on the Web Site including a photo history of the past 55 years.

Emmy #1 – Rehearsal

EVERYTHING on the web site has been updated...new seating charts, ID Badge, and more. I'm sure you'll enjoy the photo montage in "55 Years of Emmy."
There are some VERY big names who will be sitting in the audience, like AlPacino and MerylStreep. Check out the seating charts to see them all.
Got back from rehearsal a little while ago. The only celebrity I saw was the host, GaryShandling. The show will have a central "Reality Show" theme to it. There will be a very big surprise on the show...and it won't just be the audience who's surprised.
The set is impressive. There's a TV control room that runs the width of the set overlooking the stage.
The Governor's Ball tables are already set with a bottle of red NapaValley wine on each. It was very tempting to grab one and run. It's hard to describe how huge and how many tables are in the ballroom.
I got a glimpse of a gift basket which is given to the presenters. It's more like a gift cart than a basket. I haven't heard what's in it but it looks like it's trying to outdo the Oscars. As you'll recall, there was a trip for to to Auckland in that one.
I'm tired and should already be in bed. Big day tomorrow.

Emmy #3 – Prime Time Final

I’ll get to the hot stuff first…ElaineStritch. What did she do after she was cut off? Apparently, she was as boozed up as she indicated, but, they didn’t have to drag her off the stage. She went quietly on her own. I believe this is the only place, right here with Mr.Hollywood, where you get the rest of the story!

I only had a few brushes with fame this time but one of them was a distinguished honor. First, I got a close up view of Teri “they're real, and they're spectacular” Hatcher. She’s still spectacular! I’m no JoanRivers but I liked her gown. Second, I had the honor of being four urinals from KelseyGrammar. There was no one between us. This occurred after the show (I’m too busy to take a break during the show) so he had his Emmy with him. Are you picturing this? How do you do your business while holding an Emmy? He entrusted it to the valet who had a table set up in the men’s room. I tried to say something to him but I didn’t want to appear like I was stalking him. That can be very spooky when you’re in a restroom. I stalled a little bit but he was taking forever to wash his hands. I left the men’s room slowly, hoping he would catch up, but some women grabbed him for a photo op. Being the nice guy he is, he eagerly accommodated them. I started up the stairs…slowly (this was the basement men’s room…there’s no place to go but up) but he went the other direction. There’s another set of stairs at the opposite end of the hallway. Finally, Dreade Matteo was right behind me as I was walking out of the Shrine Auditorium. I realized this because fans and guests were cheering her name as she walked by. I glanced back and saw the actress. She is a sexy attractive woman, but she seemed a bit on the lean side. I thought about inviting her to come with me to Palermo’s restaurant, where she could fill up on some pasta and fatten up. However, her entourage threw cold water on my plan.

After the show I joined the rest of the seat filler coordinators, seat fillers, and talent escorts at Palermo’s, an Italian restaurant in LosFeliz (adjacent to Hollywood), for dinner and drinks. Angela, one of my main party crasher partners, sneaked into the Governor’s Ball. This is the ultimate party crasher achievement! Deborah, another partner in crime, bailed out completely. A female accomplice makes it much easier to sneak into a party. Since they weren’t available, I went straight home from Palermo’s.

I hope you enjoyed my report. The Oscars are just a football season away…February 27, 2005.
