GUIDELINES FOR COMPLETION

1 This pro forma should used in conjunction with the Staffordshire University Handbook for eLearning (available from Information Services, Learning Development and Innovation.)

2 This pro forma should be used when an eLearning module has been revised or where the module has been moved from one virtual learning environment to another. Since all eLearning modules need to be revised before they are repeated, this form should be completed for each occasion that the eLearning module is delivered.

3 Colleagues should complete this pro forma and attach to it a copy of the original quality assurance forma and forward for approval.

4 The sections relating to Continual Improvement, Rationale and Content below should firstly be addressed by the module author before the form is passed to Quality Assurer. The pro forma should then be completed by this person and duly ‘signed off’. The Quality Assurer should address all sections but need only comment where they feel it is helpful, or where they want to make recommendations or stipulate conditions. The Quality Assurer is not expected to check section 3 exhaustively – this is for the author – but to sample content sufficiently to verify, or otherwise, that these guidelines have been met.

RATIONALE

Consider what is being implemented against the module/course descriptor.

·  Does it address stated learning outcomes?

·  Is the pedagogic rationale of the VLE component(s) of the module/course consistent with the outcomes and learning strategies stated in the descriptor?

·  Will the descriptor require revision?

·  Are there other recommendations or conditions you wish to make?

o  Conditions - C (these must be implemented before delivery)

Recommendations - R (these should made in the spirit of establishing a culture of refinement and improvement)

Note: Where an electronic component is being used to merely support a module (and not an essential component) a “lighter touch” should be given to the initial QA of the eLearning aspect. What is important is that what is being done is in the spirit of what is stated in the course/module descriptor, and that there are not problems of presentation or construction that would seriously compromise its use by learners. In this case particular attention should be paid to subsequent feedback and evaluation. If, subsequently, the electronic component is to become a permanent feature of delivery or is to be expanded, then necessary modifications to the descriptor should be implemented.
