St. Luke Lutheran Church in SW Portland is seeking a part-time organist/accompanist to play for two Sunday morning worship services (9am and 10:30am) and to accompany the Rejoice Choir (adult, sanctuary ensemble) for their Thursday evening rehearsals (7:30-9pm) September through May plus the first week of June. St. Luke is the largest Lutheran church in the city of Portland with a comprehensive, diverse music program led by Dr. Dan Hibbett. Musical Qualifications:

Strong keyboard skills with experience playing organ and piano for worship

services, weddings, funerals, and choir rehearsals

Proficient in both classical organ repertoire and contemporary Christian keyboard music

Creative and energetic approach to hymn singing and organ registration

Ability to improvise keyboard accompaniments from a melody with chord symbols

Personal Qualifications:

Personal faith in Christ and familiarity with the liturgical year

Team player who is open to suggestion and willing to take direction

People/ministry-oriented; flexible and adaptable in regards to changing worship

styles and the needs of a growing, diverse congregation

Organizational/administrative skills

Responsibilities:

*Work directly with the Minister of Music in planning music for Sundays.

*Serve as the primary church organist for two Sunday morning services weekly

with Sundays off to be negotiated. Select appropriate repertoire for organ preludes,

postludes, and offertories as needed. Provide titles and composers for use in the

Sunday bulletin. Accompany the sung liturgy at the 9:00am Sunday worship service.

*Play organ for special non-Sunday services such as Christmas Eve, Christmas

morning, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, etc.

*Play piano/organ for special music programs and concerts (outside of Sunday

morning) such as Christmas or Advent concerts, Spring Ring ‘n Sing, etc.

*Accompany Rejoice Choir rehearsals on Thursday nights (7:30-9:00pm) from

September through the first week in June. Serve as the assistant director of this group.

*Accompany instrumental and vocal soloists (cantors) and ensembles for Sunday

worship and special programs as needed; make arrangements for rehearsals either

Thursday nights (before or after choir) or Sunday mornings before the first service.

*Accompany worship teams on piano as needed on Sunday mornings

*Be available to play organ for weddings and funerals on Saturdays as needed. An additional

organist/accompanist fee is provided for these services.

*Meet once a quarter with the Worship Support Team.

Supervisors: Dr.Dan Hibbett, Minister of Music/Rev. David Knapp, Senior Pastor

Recommended Compensation: $12, 500 per year (12 months)

Salary is based on a part-time position. Hours worked will include personal practice time and

shall be reported on the monthly time sheets signed by the employee and the Minister of Music

(immediate supervisor).

Benefits: Negotiable; to include paid time off and sick leave. Budgeted funds areprovided for purchase

of new music for organ and piano preludes, offertories, and postludes. First consideration will be given

to serve as organist for all weddings and memorial services for additional pay.
