"Happy Birthday Jesus"

January 9, 2017

It was great to get back into the "swing" of things this week. We loved hearing about all the wonderful gifts, and family moments that your children shared with you during our break. Thank you to everyone for the beautiful gifts we received from the class. We are so blessed to have such wonderful families. To start off our new year, we are asking the students to reflect upon the "past" year. We would like them to bring in an assignment that they are proud of. It should not be an art project but a piece of work that they can reflect upon. All assignments are due by Thursday.

Today, we sent home the Act of Contrition with your child. It is important to go over this prayer each evening, as it is part of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We have learned which each part means, and why we say it. Students will be tested on the prayer, as part of the preparation for this Sacrament.

This week, we will also be sending home a mini-science project for each student to do. They will receive a packet with instructions, a science board, and their own individual science project to complete. The students have been doing mini-science projects throughout the year on Fridays, as well as in science lab with Mr. Geislinger. Projects will be due on Thursday, January 26, 2017. Please do not turn them in before that. We are excited about what the students will find in their experiment, and look forward to displaying them during Catholic Schools Week.

This Wednesday, we will have our first school mass of the year. Students should be in full uniform for this day. Also, on Friday, it is a school holiday for thestudents, and a workday for the teachers. We hope that you enjoy this four-day weekend. Don't forget that the fallowing week, we will celebrate our First Reconciliation. Grade 2A will receive the Sacrament on Wednesday, January 18, and grade 2B on Thursday, January 19. The dress for this evening is "Sunday" best-no jeans, or tennis shoes please.

This week in our GoMath book we will begin to rewrite 2-digit addition problems, do some problem solving, and write equations. If your child has not yet mastered addition facts, please work with them each evening to accomplish this task. We will learn about the prefix –re, and have our weekly memory word test on Thursday during our Superkids time. During our religion time, we will continue to learn about Reconciliation and how Jesus forgives our sins.

GRANDMA JACKIE'S CORNER…..

Dear Parents,

It is so hard to believe that 2017 is here. And with 2017 comes many exciting opportunities for the children and your families. Reconciliation will be here before we can even get it on our calendars. It is going to be a special night. Please remember to make supportive comments as the children prepare for the sacrament. I will be happy to be with you that evening. Also, if you haven't made an appointment with Yolanda and myself please take time to do so. I am excited that I get to meet with some of you. I so miss my daily connection with the children and the families.

I would like to ask you to pray for the soul of Bea Neal. She was our Sacrament Coordinator for many years. She passed away after Christmas. She was a good friend to all of us.

I am looking forward to seeing the children this week. Wishing you many blessings this year.
