RE: Seminar News

Date: September 5, 2014

Welcome Back! I want to begin by thanking students and families for all your hard work and efforts last year. It was a busy school year full of changes, new students, and crazy weather. We did it! Thank you.

The theme at Pennell and for Seminar this year is ‘Back to the Future’. Students will be constructing creative kids based on this theme the first week of seminar class. Please have students bring in a small picture to post next to their Past, Present, or Future self.

Enclosed in your seminar packet are the following materials:

·  September & October calendars

·  Grade level 2014-2015 calendar

·  White Emergency Form (non Pennell students)

·  Student Information/Publicity form

·  Grade level outline

·  PAGE logo contest

·  General Seminar Information handout

·  Open House Invitation

·  Parent Letter

·  PCP chart

I will try to regularly post copies of handouts, long term assignments, monthly calendars, and information on my teacher page. My teacher page is located at Pennell with links to this page at each elementary school.

I will push-in to regular classrooms again this year. I do not have a schedule yet, but times are between 10:15 and 11:45. Last year I pushed into fourth and fifth grades December, January, and February. I pushed into second and third grades during the months of April and May. Push in will begin mid-September.

Supplies:

·  I am requesting donations of tissues, Lysol-type cleaning wipes, or cheap plastic table covers for seminar classroom use.

·  If you use return address labels, please send several in for home mailings.

·  I am also asking parents to provide children with markers and glue sticks, if your child prefers these over crayons, colored pencils, and liquid glue. I currently do not have a gifted budget for materials and supplies.

·  Third graders may want to purchase a felt tip calligraphy pen (as an option). I will provide traditional ink and calligraphy pens.

·  Students may want to bring in an apron or an old adult shirt to use as a cover-up on messy project days.

·  Students should have a three ring binder and a pocket folder. These do not have to be new. (dividers are optional) Any binder left in June is still here….as well as several jackets.

The fourth grade trip to Washington, D.C., is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 9, 2015. The cost of the trip is typically $100 to $125 for two seats (student/parent). Extra chaperone seats are available.

Details for all seminar trips and culminating activities will be discussed at the Open House.

The students and seminar program would benefit from your help and support again this year. Seminar lost our classroom assistant several years ago due to budget cuts. If you are willing to be a homeroom parent or volunteer your time please let me know.

I look forward to meeting with you at the Open House and throughout the school year. This is going to be an AWESOME school year!
