BELFAST SCHOOL IS SIMPLY THE BEST

David Healy checks out NI’s future football talent as Gaelscoil na bhFál winsBPSFA 5-a-side competition

Gaelscoil na bhFálin West Belfast picked up the coveted winners’ trophy at the 2016 RainbowBelfast Primary Schools' Football Association Annual5-A-Side Competitionto be crowned champions of the cross community tournament which was sponsored by Rainbow Communications.

The competition took place atShankill Leisure Centre and Linfield Manager David Healy was the guest of honour meeting the young players and presented them with their medals.

34 teams from schools across Belfast took part in the tournament heats over the last number of weeks with St Therese of Lisieux and Seaview PS from North Belfast; Gaelscoil na bhFál, St Peter’s PS and Holy Child PS from West Belfast and Victoria Park PS from East Belfast making the final six.

Linfield Manager David Healy, who attended the tournament for the second year running said: “I am delighted that Rainbow Communications invited me back to the Belfast Primary Schools' Football Association Annual5-A-Side Competitionagain this year. It is great to see grassroots football being supported with this cross community tournament and I was delighted to be able to watch some of our potential football stars of the future. Congratulations toGaelscoil na bhFáland well done to all the finalists.”

Stuart Carson from Rainbow Communications, which is Northern Ireland’s largest independent business telecomscompany said: “As a company, we are committed to supporting Northern Ireland’s youngsporting stars through our various sponsorships. This is the fifth year we have sponsored the Belfast Primary Schools' Football Association Annual5-A-Side Competitionand we are proud to have helped bring 34 local schools together in this cross community event.

The pupils certainly enjoyed taking part and it was nice to see them all focused on trying their best, yet have fun at the same time. What’s more, it was great that David Healy came along again this year, especially given his new role as manager of Linfield, and all the teams were excited to meet him and get advice on how they can improve their game,” Stuart added.

The help they have given the Association over many years has benefitted many Belfast schools and hundreds of pupils who have enjoyed the 5-a-side football. It is also a pleasure to welcome back David Healy who has a great rapport with the children and we are grateful that he has found time to be with us today from his duties at Windsor Park.”
