Departmental Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Inclusions Leader to:

a)Teach, using an appropriately flexible approach within the Inclusion Centre.

b)Plan and prepare courses, schemes of work and individual lessons appropriate to the needs, interests, experience and existing knowledge of the children.

c)Participate in the setting up and review of support programmes to ensure students make appropriate progress.

d)To participate in the daily and weekly Inclusions meetings, contribute to the organisation of the department, undertaking tasks in areas dictated by departmental needs, and /or related to own strengths and staff development needs.

e)To follow school and department policies for the setting and marking of work, assessments, records of achievement, examinations and other matters.

f)Promote the social development and welfare of the pupils so that each child feels valued and enjoys learning.

g)To ensure high expectations of achievement for all pupils.

h)Monitor and assess pupils’ work.

i)Record their development, progress and attainment.

j)Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references for students

Whole School Responsibilities

a)To carry out a share of supervising duties in accordance with published rotas.

b)To participate in appropriate meetings with colleagues and parents

c)To follow established procedures which contribute to the common good of the school.

d)To participate in the school’s performance management system.

e)To share, as required, in new developments.

f)To participate as far as possible in the life of the school as a whole, to work through the school’s normal channels of communication.

g)To ensure smooth reintegration into mainstream lessons.

h)To support the work of the Inclusion Team in developing exemplary inclusive practice across the school.

i)To support the Inclusion Leader in creating a climate which enables other staff to develop and maintain positive attitudes towards inclusion.

Person Specification (Selection Criteria)

Qualifications and Experience

a)Qualified, good or outstanding teacher with a commitment to students particularly those at risk of social exclusion.

b)Successful experience as a classroom teacher in primary (Key Stage 2) or secondary school, plus knowledge of Information and Communications Technology with the ability to use IT appropriately to engage students in their learning.

c)Experience of working with pupils with challenging behaviour and social emotional needs.

Skills Abilities and Personal Qualities

a)The ability to relatesensitively to children with particular needs, to their parents and to work in partnership with teachers and other professionals.

b)The ability to work effectively within a team, as a member of a collaborative group, and to provide appropriate support within the department.

c)Effective classroom skills including consistently good or outstanding teaching, planning, assessment for learning, target setting and reinforcing positive behaviour for learning.

d)A sense of humour.

e)The ability to plan for, record, and evaluate programmes of work (in mainstream, small groups and individual work), and students’ progress in relation to them.

f)Effective written and oral communication skills.

g)A willingness and ability to work flexibly and to adapt readily to meet the academic needs of individual pupils and groups of pupils.

h)The ability to communicate with parents on pupils' learning and progress, drawing attention to special skills and talents as well as to problems or difficulties.

i)Understanding the issues in relation to equal opportunities and a commitment to promoting opportunity of access for all pupils.

j)Good understanding of safeguarding procedures.

k)An excellent record of attendance and punctuality.
