We are glad to invite you to participate in the 5th International Young Scientist’s Biology Conference which will take place from the 21st to the 25th of November 2010 at the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (KhNU). The conference is organized by the School of Biology and Students’ Scientific Society of the Kharkiv University.

Languages: The official languages of the conference are English, Russian and Ukrainian.
1. PARTICIPANTS
MSc and BSc students, as well as PhD students and young scientists (up to 35 years old), are welcome to present results of their research in biology, biomedicine and ecology. Participants may choose one of the two ways to present their data: oral talk or poster.

The abstracts will be published by the Organizing Committee and distributed among the participants during the conference. Conference materials will also be available on the website of the KhNU after the conference.
3. REGISTRATION AND ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
For registration, participants are required to send the following materials before the 25th of September 2010:

Electronic versions should be sent by the first author as attachments in one message. The filenames should correspond to the surname of the first author; the extension should be .rtf (for example, jones_regform.rtf and jones_abstract.rtf).
IMPORTANT! The Organizing Committee will send you a notification that all the materials sent by e-mail were received. In case if you do not receive such a notification within one week after you have sent the data, please try to send the e-mail once more! Abstracts sent after the deadline will not be published in the abstract book.

IMPORTANT! To prepare registration forms, please use only the table above or an attached file! Please use Times New Roman font, 12 pt only. Registration forms should be formatted only this way and sent together with the abstracts.
5. ABSTRACT GUIDELINES
The maximal size of the abstract is one page. It should be prepared in MS Word in Ukrainian, Russian or English. The filename should correspond to the surname of the participant that presents data and have extension .rtf (e.g., jones_abstract.rtf). Please, use the following formatting: page size A4, all margins are 2 cm, font Times New Roman, 12pt, single spacing, special symbols only from the Symbol font.
The abstracts should be formatted in the following way:
1) Title (capital letters, bold, central alignment).
2) Names of all the authors (bold, central alignment).
3) Affiliations: institution, department, institutional addresses, e-mails of the authors (left alignment, no indentation).
4) Summary (justified alignment, indentation from left 1 cm, no division of words, no bold or underlined text, italics only for Latin names, no tables, pictures and plots).
5) References: please, do not put any references at the end of the abstract. If it is necessary, reference can be given directly in the text (e.g., Smith et al., 2009).
6) Information about supervisor or academic advisor (name, scientific degree, position) and acknowledgements
7) For abstracts in Russian and Ukrainian: a short (not more than 10 lines) summary in English.

7. POSTERS
Poster design and formatting: Size A1 (84.0 x 59.4 cm). Each poster should contain: title, names of the authors, mailing addresses of the authors and e-mails. This data should be located on the top of the poster (similar to the formatting of the summary). Please, pay attention that the title should be easily readable.
IMPORTANT! All materials should contain only information about the original research performed by the authors. Please, proof-read the abstracts carefully before submitting them! Summaries that do not fulfill the requirements of the conference will be rejected. In case of rejection, the conference fee will be returned, except of the postal expenses. You will be notified about acception of your materials separately. If necessary, the Organizing Committee may shift the summary to another section, if it is more appropriate for the topic of the talk.
8. CONFERENCE FEE
Conference fee should be sent before the 25th of September 2010 to the following address:

Conference fee includes: publishing a book with abstracts (every participant receives one copy), a folder with conference materials, certificate of participation, coffee breaks and guided tours. If a participant is not able to arrive, conference materials will be sent by postal mail within 1 month after the conference. Please, pay attention that the abstracts can be published only if the conference fee is paid before the 25th of September 2010.
Travel costs, accommodation and meals are not covered by the conference fee and need to be paid by participants at their own expense!

In addition to the official program, everybody is welcome to participate in a Conference party. The costs for the dinner are not included in the conference fee and need to be transferred to the Organizing Committee before the 25th of September 2010. The copies of receipts for the payment should be sent to the Organizing Committee. Please, do not forget to indicate your name on the receipt! The originals of the receipts should be presented during the registration.
9. ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS
An ordinary meal in most cafes, fast-foods, hotels, and inexpensive restaurants may vary from € 4 to €10.
Accommodation costs in the hotels and dormitories offered by the organizing committee are within 10- 20 Euros per day. Detailed information regarding accommodation, room reservation and costs will be sent in the second information letter. Please, pay attention that the Organizing Committee guarantees accommodation only for the participants registered before the deadline, i.e. the 25th of September 2010.

11. IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES
25.09.2010 – registration and abstract submission deadline;
25.09.2010 – deadline for conference fee payment and sending hard copies of the abstracts and registration forms;
22.11.2010 – opening of the conference;
25.11.2010 – end of the conference.
Second information letter and official invitation will be sent to the registered participants in October 2010
