Dear Parent/Carer
Cornwall Skills Advocacy Conference - Wednesday 25th April 2018
Your child has recently been selected to represent Helston Community College at the Cornwall Skills Advocacy Conference. The Advocacy Skills Conference is for students aged 14-18 and is aimed at developing students’ legal knowledge as well as their employability skills. At the conference, students experience a number of advocacy masterclasses, delivered by legal professionals.
There are plenty of opportunities for students to put their advocacy skills to practice, helping to develop soft skills such as critical thinking and public speaking. Students will also learn about the procedures which govern our legal system and will gain in-depth knowledge about a specific area of criminal law.
They will take part in opening and closing speeches, examination in chief and cross-examination and best practice for delivering advocacy. The day concludes with a Q&A session, the panel will include members of the Bar and Magistracy, as well as previous participants of the Bar Mock Trial Competition.
This conference will take place on Wednesday 25th April at 12.30pm. Students will need to leave period 2 early (at 11.45am) and will return to Helston Community Collegeat 4.30pm. The students should congregate in South Site Reception at 11.45am. We will travel to Penwith College by minibus.
If you would like your child to attend this event, please complete the attached consent slip and return it to South Site Reception as soon as possible.
In the event of an emergency we will be referring to the Parental Consent Form that you completed for use during this academic year, commencing September 2017. If there have been changes to any information you have submitted about your contact details or your child’s medical needs, please note the new details on the reply slip below.
