JEFFERSON COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING

February 10, 2011

The meeting was called to order by President Cary Johnson. Those in attendance were Bonnie Rogers, George Hoerter, William Kistler, Brad Johnson, Rena Kuberski, Tom Hitpas, Susan Franklin, Sue Fenniman, Donna Mullins, Nancy Wellnitz, Beverly Craddock, Jane Weinberger, Kris Hayes, Bob Lanky, Louise Todd-Stoll, Dianne Hitchingham, Pat Tunnell, Edie Richey, Cheryl Siefert, Pat Stoehr, Cary Johnson and Mary Ellen Peters.

Excused members were Teresa Legault, Dar Vriesman and Gretchen Cerveny

MINUTES

The January minutes were approved and seconded.

TREASURER’S REPORT

The 2010 Financials were approved and seconded. Jane Weinberger will do an amended Financial for 2011 and resubmit in March. Each committee needs to come up with a budget for 2011.

SENIOR DAY AT THE CAPITOL

This event will take place on Wednesday, February 23rd. Cary Johnson has two front row seats as well as four lunch tickets. Louise Todd-Stoll and Brad Johnson will use the tickets.

POWER OF PARTNERSHIP CONFERENCE

Sue Fenniman gave a brief explation of this event that will take place on Thursday, February 24th.

SENIOR LAW DAY

Senior Law Day will be on Saturday, June 11. Cary Johnson gave a brief description of events which will include Ed Sardella as a guest speaker, a complete Thanksgiving meal provided by Country Buffet and a band playing during lunch. It will be a fun and informative day.

GUEST SPEAKER

Next month’s speaker will be Angela Schreffler, executive Director of the Denver Mobility and Access Council. Try to think of some good questions to ask.

A photo was taken of the Council. It will possibly be used for the Aging Well program.

NEW BUSINESS

Jane Weinberger spoke about the State’s Joint Budget Committee. They are proposing a 40% reduction on agencies serving seniors. Our Senators and Representatives need to hear our voices. There is already a waiting list. If we are not heard from, we are an easy cut.

TRIAD

Nancy Wellnitz reminded everyone of the next meeting on Feb. 15th at the Evergreen Fire Dept. The topic is What Happens When You Call 911. On Tuesday, Feb. 22nd the meeting will be in the District Attorney Training Room, the topic will be Is Your Money Safe.

Colleen Shemesh had to resign from the Council because of job conflicts. A new Vice President will need to be chosen. Anyone interested in this position needs to let Cary know.

The Council broke into committees to discuss plans for the year to carry out the goals of the committee.
