Ice Floe Race

On Ice Theme

Float RULES

In keeping with tradition, teams are encouraged to build an optional Theme related Parade Float type on‐ice two or three dimensional display for their ice floe. If you decide to build a Race Theme Float

The RULES of a FLOAT are:

•  Maximum dimensions for a Float are: 4 feet wide, 8 feet long and 7 feet tall ‐ to fit under the trees.

•  Teams must post a sign as to what their “Anything Gold” idea is. Acting out a 1 minute Skit may be advised.

•  Teams may display their Team (“Gold Star Cowboys”) or Club ( Montreal Mermaids or Joe’s Dive Shop) name on their Float or their Floe – for media, general public, Judges, etc.

•  Float should be easily assembled on site or fit easily into a truck or trailer for disassembly off site.

•  The parade‐type Float or structure or graphics wall must be displayed early Sunday morning with your costumed team members, at the start line , Lock #24, for all to admire, for photos and for Judging from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The Race Starts at 12:00 PM SHARP. Please be ready when called.

•  The Float must be of lightweight construction to be carried by your team from the judging area down to your ice floe ‐ about 100 meters or 330 feet away, including down one large concrete staircase.

•  Your Float must also be placed on your ice floe and brought along the full length of the racecourse.

•  The Float must float and not sink. Secure it well to the ice floe.

•  The Float must stay on top of your floe at all times.

•  The Float and all handles, ropes, pom‐poms, etc must be removed from your designated ice floe immediately after your team is signaled by the horn from the Finish Line Marshall’s that you have crossed the finish line and after your swimmer is in the water.

•  Previous Floats were built on top of a wooden shipping skid, among other platforms, in case of a No Ice Event inner tubes could be easily attached underneath and the race continued.

•  Remember: in the case of a No Ice Event each racer must bring with them or purchase locally an inner tube of size “7.5 – 8.5 L 14 – 15” for an inflated size of 6 inches thick x 32 inched outside diameter.

•  One inner tube per racer. No exceptions.

•  Teams will leave every 7 minutes from the start line.

•  Your team will have 5 minutes to place and anchor your Float on your floe.

•  Once the Float is placed on the Floe and secured all team members must leave the ice until called:

“TEAM NUMBER “X” DON YOUR FINS AND ENTER THE WATER”

•  Read all the Ice Floe Race Rules found at http://underwatercouncil.com/?action=cms&cmspage=floe‐race and inside every Team Captain’s Information Package

Judging:

Judges will be selected by the co-chairs at random and not named. Judges will select points between 1 and 5 for each TEAM COSTUME SET, each TEAM FLOAT and for overall TEAM ENTHUSIASM and the points totaled. The interaction between Costumed Teams and their Float is encouraged.

All or any award may not be presented.

All selections are final.
