SFC Meeting

Ms. Hild began the meeting at 4:04 PM, as Mrs. Kowalik was not present. The meeting began with introductions.
Miss Woerner shared the draft of the School Performance Plan. She shared the parts of the plan, and how the data and committee input were used for the completion of the draft. Questions were discussed about how to share input. The first draft will be due Friday, 9/23.
Mrs. McGinness discussed the role of the attendance committee, and asked for volunteers to join.
Mr. Hellerbach discussed the role of the climate/PBIS committee, and asked for volunteers to join. Ms. Smith explained how climate and PBIS work together, and track similar information. Miss Woerner moved that the PBIS and climate committees be folded together, and Ms. Hild seconded. The motion was approved unanimously. The committee discussed possible contributions and components to the role of this committee.
Mr. Pontious discussed the role of the family/community relations committee. He discussed some possible agenda items for the committee.
Ms. Rivetti discussed the role of the achievement committee. She discussed future agenda items for the committee.
Ms. Cole gave the state of the school report. She reported on the fact that we had an excellent fire drill today. The students and staff did an excellent job. Ms. Cole also shared a report from the Baltimore Education Coalition on behalf of Elizabeth Reichelt, who was unable to attend. There will be a new glee club run by a person sponsored by the PTA. Ms. Cole also discussed how many positive comments she has received from parents so far this year.
Miss Woerner reported that we had a very successful back to school night and we have many new students. Mr. Hellerbach discussed the upcoming North Bay trip and a science activity that the Ingenuity schools are planning. Mr. Croson discussed how the 7th graders were asked for their input on various projects, in order to improve the school community/climate. Ms. Brooks shared that the 8th grade's primary focus is high school preparation. She discussed the ways in which the students and parents are prepared to make informed choices.
Ms. Huey gave the PTA report. They did some painting over the summer, and plan to continue to make improvements to the building over the course of the year. Classroom Parent is up and running, and PTA attendance is also up this year. Movie night will be this Friday, and there will be a general PTA meeting on October 13th. Also, they are planning the Evening with the Arts fundraiser for 11/18. General meetings will include a workshop, a speaker, or another focus.
The next meeting is scheduled for October 17.
