2013 APIASF Higher Education Summit

CALL FOR PROPOSALS – CONCURRENT SESSIONS

Submission Deadline: March 22, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

On June 25, 2013, the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) will host its annual Higher Education Summit around the theme, Moving Forward: Engaging the Changing Face of America at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC. This forum brings together a group of multicultural political leaders, higher education researchers and administrators, representatives from the private and government sectors, community organizations, foundations, and students, to generate an active dialogue on the most significant issues impacting the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Highlights of the event include presentations of and information regarding emerging research by the National Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Research in Education (CARE), panels focused on higher education for AAPI students, concurrent sessions, networking opportunities, and a special reception to recognize the work of key leaders in the AAPI community. This year, APIASF seeks proposals for concurrent sessions framed around the following:

  • Mobilizing resources and advancing institutional capacity to increase higher education access for Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders
  • Policy, program, or practice facilitating student access and success in higher education for Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders

2013 APIASF Higher Education Summit Objectives

  • Strengthen existing collaborations and develop partnerships to facilitate access and success in higher education
  • Share best practices and successful initiatives to advance institutional capacity
  • Highlight new research and data to mobilize resources
  • Create recommendations to strengthen students, families and communities

Each concurrent session will have approximately 50-75 participants. Submissions for multiple concurrent sessions will not be accepted - applicants may submit only one proposal for one of the concurrent sessions listed above. Each session will be allocated 90 minutes and conducted twice. All concurrent sessions will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 and proposals are due by March 22, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. PST.
Expectations for Concurrent Sessions

  • Each concurrent session must consist of at least 2 facilitators
  • Facilitators must have at least 5-7 years of demonstrated facilitation experience (e.g., large group sessions, meetings, presentations, panels, workshops, teaching experience, etc.)
  • Facilitators must have demonstrated knowledge of issues related to higher education access and retention policies, programs, and research pertaining to AAPI and other communities of color
  • Content of concurrent sessions must address the objectives of the 2013 APIASF Higher Education Summit and must engage participants in a discussion relevant to the concurrent session topic
  • At least 50% of the session should be used to facilitate an active dialogue with participants

The individual identified as Facilitator 1 is the principal contact and is responsible for coordinating all correspondence among co-facilitators with APIASF, providing all contact information for co-facilitator(s) to APIASF in addition to organizing and facilitating the concurrent session at the2013 APIASF Higher Education Summit.

Participant Engagement

Additional Information:

  • Presenters are responsible for their own travel and lodging accommodations.
  • All presenters are required to register for the 2013 Higher Education Summit (Click here to register for the event, which is free and open to the public)
  • APIASF will provide a portable screen, LCD projector, and microphone(s). Internet service will not be provided.
  • APIASF reserves the right to recommend changes in the proposal and may encourage joint presentations.
  • Once accepted, presenters will be asked to sign and honor a commitment to present.
