Consider this your first interview!

  1. Give five values or attributes that describe you as a person and a professional and why.
  1. A 20-year employee had a serious family issue and you provided 90 days paid compassionate leave - substantially above what was required. When they came back to work, their ability to focus and do their job was severely reduced. You and staff provided emotional support when you could. After a month, focus to the job was not improving. You first provided gentle reminders that the work tasks were not satisfactory and eventually personnel policies were followed as needed with first verbal and then written warnings. Work continued to suffer and the other staff complained to you that the recovering employee was no longer providing the required work needed, and the entire office was severely impacted. What would you do? And why?
  1. WALA has a tradition of CEOs who have great longevity as the head of the organization. Describe your short and long term professional goals and interest in longevity as WALA’s CEO.
  1. Please share an example of an ethical or value conflict you’ve experienced in your career… what it was and how you worked through it.
  1. Tell us about a time when you helped others to recognize that change was needed in order to better support the organization’s vision or goals.
  1. Please share 2 or 3 best practices that you have observed as being successful in other associations, which if implemented by WALA could strengthen the organization.
  1. At least three things go wrong with every special event, no matter how well you plan. Tell us about a time when you were on the spot, when something went wrong. What did you do?
  1. Since WALA defines itself as a service organization, what does that mean to you personally and professionally?
  1. Describe situations in which you have had a majorprofessionalfinancial shortfall. Describe how you managed that shortfall as well as the short and long-term outcomes.
  1. Describe your professional style in dealing with the public. Are you formal vs informal? Assertive vs reflective? Folksy vs business? Describe how you present yourself in public using your own set of adjectives.

Thank you for your interest in the WALA CEO position.
