Assignments:

BEFORE THE MARCH CLASS Leadership and Clergy as Leaders

Read Getting Naked - be prepared to give the class a five minute presentation on the character in the book you most identify with and why. Please write this out for submission AT THE MARCH CLASS- not before.

SUBMIT At least two weeks before the March class: Read 10,000 Horses and The Serving Leader . Write a five-seven page paper on how these two books can apply to you as a leader in the local church. Compare the two books using examples. Describe how individuals from the two books might bring gifts to ministry using their leadership styles. Likewise, describe some of the negative characteristics lifted up by the authors and what harm might come due to their leadership styles.

APRIL IS ADMINISTRATION MONTH AT COS!

  1. Church record keeping, past, present and future- please come prepared to describe the state of the church records where you currently serve.
  2. Relationship/Accountability of the local church and you as pastor to the District Office, particularly the Administrative Assistant to the District Superintendent. This will include required reports, critical nature of information to be produced.
  3. Relationship/Accountability of you as pastor and your local church to the Annual Conference regarding administration. This will include Annual Conference meetings and preparation for AC. It will also include accountability to the District Superintendent and Bishop for annual reports, shared ministry payments and appropriate lines of communication
  4. What happens when a pastor is called upon to move (knowing that local pastors are not required to be itinerant, but occasionally called upon to change appointments).

BEFORE THE APRIL CLASS

1. Read the UMC Guideline booklet

a. Write a brief response to the way you understand the pastor's responsibility to ORDER the life the local church.

1. What does it mean to "order"

2. What responsibilities does the pastor have in the church life that

would fall into this category?

3. What are the things that a pastor MUST oversee being done, even

if they don't do them by themselves.
