“Understanding Clinical Systems Evaluation” Job Aid

Evaluating the Clinical Systems Training will show which areas of the training and delivery are working well, and which areas need improvement. The purpose of this job aid is to help you interpret your evaluation results and provide you with recommendations for continuous improvement.

Step 1: Interpreting the results

  1. Questions 1 - 5show your learner satisfaction results. This gives you an overview of the learners’ experience. The bolded numbers represent the most popular response. Think of these responses as falling into one of two categories: Poor & Fair = Negative, Good & Excellent = Positive. If you have concerns about responses to these questions, contact Amanda Reeceto discuss potential actions for improvement.
  1. Question 6 shows your learners’ confidence levels in performing tasks in the clinical systems. The boldednumbers represent the most popular response. Think of these responses as falling into one of two categories: Poor & Fair = Negative, Good & Excellent = Positive.
  1. Questions 7-23 show the learners’ comprehension of specific content. The bolded numbers represent the most popular response. Ideally, the correct answer will have a response percent higher than 75%. On the Evaluation Results Tracking Chart (located on the back of this sheet), enter the correct answer response percent for items 7-25. Highlight questions with a score below 75%.

Step 2: Recommendations for Continuous Improvement

  1. For each of the questions identified in Step C above, consider the following actions:
  2. Review and highlight those lessons in the facilitators guide to focus on for the next class.
  3. Preceptors and facilitators should circulate to observe participants during Individual Practice, Knowledge Checks, and/or Group Activities for those lessons. Offer coaching to participants who seem to struggle with the material.
  1. If the overall confidence level from Question 6 is high, but many questions have a low score, use the following questioning techniques:
  2. Avoid asking yes/no questions
  3. Ask for reasons and explanations
  4. Ask participants to describe what they observe
  1. Meet with the preceptors who were present during your facilitation, and share the evaluation results with them.
  2. Notice overlaps where questions were missed and preceptors identified potential confusion on their Classroom Observation Form.
  3. Discuss ways to make adjustments to increase engagement, stay on time, account for mixed skill levels, and manage classroom distractions.
