Faculty Academy
Fall 2009
The Faculty Academy started in the fall 2001 semester as an experiment to assist new full-time faculty. A successful pilot program was implemented again in the spring of 2002. Another Faculty Academy session will be offered in the fall of 2008. This session will be extended to include new faculty, adjunct faculty and existing faculty members.
The purpose of the Academy is not to teach, but to help.
The life of a teacher is not easy one, just ask any teacher! The pressures of starting a new teaching job are by no means trivial. The Academy can help by providing useful, timely, and accurate information and support.
External pressures, political as well as public, and ever-changing pedagogical theories, exasperate many teachers. The Academy provides an open forum to discuss, analyze, support and, especially, criticize, any issue related to the teaching profession.
Description: The Academy is scheduled to meet five/six?? times during the semester. The first three meetings will cover the following topics:
