Important Messages:

¨  The fourth grade Typing Club is clicking away. The students are continuing to practice typing skills three times a week. They can practice at home as well. Students have access to this program from home through the lock and key button found on the AH and CBPA homepage. They will log in with their Google passwords found in the front of their planners. We encourage students to practice at home during the next 6 weeks.

¨  We will be celebrating our Winter party on Tuesday, December 22nd from 2:30 – 3:30. Some classrooms are still in need of a Head Room Parent. Mrs. Pincus, Mrs. Malinowski, and Ms. Wegner each need one or two parents to help organize this party.

¨  A big THANK YOU to the parents who made the Fall Festival a fantastic hour of fun! The kids had a great time, and so did the teachers!

¨  The Word of the Week is going well. The students are exposed to a new word pertaining to their learning in both Humanities and Inquiry. Please practice using the word EFFICIENT this week around home. Next week our word of the week will be FLUENCY.

¨  Each fourth grade class will be going to the Coon Rapids Dam in the next two weeks. This trip will be all about soil as the kids hike through the trails. Please help your child dress for the weather. Layers are really important when doing physical activity, like hiking, on a cool day. Also, we will be doing a lot of walking, so the kids will need comfortable shoes or boots.

¨  EVERYDAY MATH GAMES: Here is a list of math apps you may download for free. All ten EM3 games are free for iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, etc) in the iTunes App Store until November 26th. While some of these games have been available for free before, this is the first time all of the games have been offered without cost. Simply access the iTunes App Store, search for “Everyday Mathematics,” and download the games you see here:

·  Addition Top It

·  Baseball Multiplication 1-12 Facts

·  Baseball Multiplication 1-6 Facts

·  Beat the Computer Multiplication

·  Divisibility Dash

·  Equivalent Fractions

·  Monster Squeeze

·  Name that Number

·  Subtraction Top-It

·  Tric-Trac

¨  Planners: Please remind your child to show you their planner at home; a signature is required from you each night. Teachers check for signatures daily.

¨  Parent Volunteers: If you are planning on volunteering in the classroom or on any class field trips, please fill out your volunteer application ASAP. Applications can be found on the CBPA website; background checks also need to be filled out online. Two-weeks advance notice for field trips is necessary so background checks can be completed.

¨  FINDING SPELLING LISTS ONLINE: This year, the school district will NOT be emailing families a weekly spelling schedule. Beginning this fall, the district will just be posting the schedule each week on the district website. Here is a link to take you directly to the spelling page for Grades 1-5: http://www.anoka.k12.mn.us/Page/19180
Normally, the list will be found under the left side navigation bar.
To find the spelling pages without the link: begin by going to district homepage or CBPA site. On the top blue toolbar, find ‘Academics.’ In the drop-down, select ‘Grade Level and Course Info.’ From there, follow the left side navigation bar and find, “Spelling Lists and Schedules for Grades 1-5.” That should lead you to the page we have linked above.
