Information for school divisions and schools regarding
the Manitoba-Québec Exchange Program

  1. Manitoba students cannot participate in this program without the consent and approval of the school authorities:
  • the school division must fill out the Participation Request Form.
  • the principal must sign the Application Form and the Interview Questionnaire.

2. A school which chooses to participate in this program agrees to:

  • appoint a member of the teaching staffto be the liaison teacher;
  • accept Québec exchange students within the school for the three-month exchange period and agree to waive any fees and other school costs for these students;
  • collect personal information by means of the application process prescribed by the department;
  • form a committee responsible for evaluating the applications, selecting candidates and forwarding the recommendations to the department;
  • destroy the personal information concerning the applicants and the members of their family at the end of the school year;
  • provide counselling or assistance should the Québec student require help adjusting to the new school.

3. A teacher appointed as a liaison teacher agrees to:

  • advise students about the program;
  • accept completed application forms from students;
  • conduct interviews with students and in-home interviews with the parents of student applicants;
  • rank the student applications and send them to the Department of Education and Trainingof Manitoba by March31, 2018;

NOTE:THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAININGTRUSTS THAT THE LIAISON TEACHER AND THE SCHOOL WILL CAREFULLY SELECT THE APPLICANTS.

  • assist Québec student with course selection;
  • ensure the assessment report is completed by the Manitoba teachers and ensure the Québec students receive a copy of their assessment report before they return home in December;
  • assist the Manitoba student and his/her family in making course selections and planning schoolwork for the exchange year;
  • conduct an evaluation (by phone) when the Manitoba student is in Québec.
