Guidance and procedure for the 2minutebeachclean signs

Thank you for agreeing to host one of our 2minutebeachclean signs.

Our pilot scheme has been very successful and we anticipate few problems, if any. However, we still need to ensure that we protect you and us. So here is some small print and notes on usage.

OWNERSHIP: If you have purchased the sign from us then it is your property from delivery. This will be made clear at the arrangement stage. If you plan to have a ‘guardian’ take care of the board, please ensure they adhere to the guidelines below. If you enter a ‘sponsorship’ agreement with us then the sign remains the property of the 2 Minute Beach Clean.

MAINTENANCE: The signs should be maintenance free as they have been tried and tested over a tough winter. If they do fall over there is not a lot that can go wrong. We offer a repair service for signs that have been purchased. For sponsored boards, if there are minor issues and wear and tear we would expect you to carry out these repairs yourselves however, in the case of major damage (i.e. the sign looses function or becomes dangerous to the public) that might put the sign out of use we will mend it or replace it.

PLACEMENT: Where your sign is sited is important. We want to make sure that as many people see it as possible and that they are able to read both sides. However, it must not block pathways, cause an obstruction or be sited anywhere it may be seen as being dangerous or a nuisance. It cannot be used if litter bins are out of commission or too far away or unable to be seen from the sign.

·  Do not site the sign too far from bins or allow it to cause obstruction.

·  Do not put it out where it may damage parked cars if it fell over or on or near a cliff edge.

·  If you can, find a place where it can be chained to a post (but can still be read on both sides) to minimise the danger of it being stolen, blown over or causing damage to anyone or anything.

CARRIER BAGS: Please keep the bag holder topped up with used supermarket bags and ensure the bags are secure in the tube and won’t blow away. If you can, please invite others to bring their used carrier bags.

PICKERS: We do not provide pickers with our boards. However, we can supply bespoke 2 Minute Beach Clean Pickers for £8.00 + VAT each. We recommend putting out 3 with the sign, maximum 4, at any one time but keeping a small stock of spares. We have found that they will wander from time to time, but, historically, it hasn’t been a big problem overall.

PURCHASING MORE LITTER PICKERS: From www.helpinghand.co.uk using the discount code 2MBCGROUP to gain the 2 Minute Beach Clean pickers.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: When winds are high and there is any risk of the sign being blown over, do not put it out.

·  If you can, chain the sign to a post or weight it with a sandbag (not supplied) so it won’t fall over and damage people or property.

·  Do not put the sign out where it is at risk of being washed away by large set waves at high tides.

·  Please also consider the weather and tides for the day ahead before making the decision to put the sign out. It can turn!

PUBLIC SAFETY: If there are any known risks to public safety on the beach including, but not inclusive of, strong winds, unknown substances, large storm swell, tidal cut off – do not erect.

INSURANCE:

If you own your signs: We expect you to fully insure your signs against public liability yourself (please tick the box below) however, we can offer £5 insurance per board under our policy if necessary.

If we retain ownership and you ‘sponsor’ a sign: Our policy covers the sign for any damage it may cause to third parties or property, when used according to these guidelines. In the event of a claim where the sign has been put out in adverse weather conditions or has been put out too near property or vehicles, our policy may not cover the damage.

HELP WITH PUBLIC RELATIONS: Logos and videos are available for use online if you wish to inform the press of the arrival of your sign.

ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO USE: Please use the 2 Minute Beach Clean logo and videos on your website and social media to inform your visitors of how you care for your beach.
