Presentation of Material

The message of STD prevention methods will be framed around women and sexual health empowerment. Women will be encouraged to “carry their own…” The message of the material will be that women are strong and independent. If they can carry their own books and carry their own bags, then they should feel confident to carry their own condoms and/or diaphragms. In the end, they should rely on themselves to protect their sexual health. This language will be utilized in introductory, segue, and concluding remarks.

Multimedia and Graphics for the STD Project

The STD Project is looking to include several graphics and a movie clip to enhance the delivery of the message.

Our main graphic is of Matisse’s woman. She represents beauty, strength, and comfort with her own body. Her image may be repeated throughout the presentation at the top of the side bar.

Images of patient and physician interaction will be placed in the introduction and conclusion, where we encourage users to discuss the information they learned with their provider.

A graph on the prevalence of STD infections among the age groups will be used in the risks of STD contraction section.

Images on the various types of condoms will be placed in the presentation. Dr. Peipert has access to this image.

An image on how to properly wear a condom will be used.

A graphic on how to insert a diaphragm will also be needed.

A video clip of a female nurse or doctor explaining how the diaphragm is fitted into a woman will be included. The provider will be sitting behind a desk and perhaps holding a diaphragm while explaining the fitting process.

A video clip of a female nurse or doctor explaining how use a condom correctly. The provider will hopefully be using a prop to explain correct use.

A video clip of various young women explaining how they negotiate using condoms with their partners.

Images of minority couples will be placed in the negotiation skills section.
