THE PURPOSE OF THE POST:

Methodist Action (North West)is a charity aimed at helping people who are homeless or in need. The charity has undergone considerable growth over recent years as its services have reached out to a greater number of people, with projects in across the North West.

We have been commissioned by DISC Floating Support Contract, to join our outreach team and support people in the community to live independently. This post is being created to oversee the our current contract with Supporting People, and supervise the team of 8 Floating support workers with the support of the Senior Worker.

Key Function:To provide supervision and line management to a staff team of 9. To provide support to service users of the Lancashire Floating Support Service and to deliver a support package to them in order to maintain a tenancy and live independently.

Main Duties:

  1. To manage case allocation and support staff to provide good quality advice and assistance, carrying out initial assessments of need, or where appropriate, signpost to other services.
  1. Using DISC’s ‘Assessment and Support Planning Policy and Procedure’authorise all staff assessments, ensuring thorough needs assessment and the development of a comprehensive support plan in order to provide effective floating support and contribute to project targets.
  1. To monitor staff case notes, ensuring prompt input of information onto the database and maintain any other relevant Management Information Systems as required in order to ensure effective case management and assist monitoring and evaluation of service delivery.
  1. To be a visible leader who communicates confidently and effectively, through various media, principally face to face, in a way which frees people to work to their best and develop their contribution to the wellbeing of people in need.
  1. Promote and ensure the delivery of best social work practice, prioritising safeguarding, and the use of evidence based practice.
  1. Assist in the use of resources to ensure that the services operate within approved budgets.
  1. To work as part of a team, attend regular team meetings, undertake training as required, and participate in one to one supervision sessions in order to assist in personal development within your role within Methodist Action.
  1. To hold and chair regular team meetings, oversee the personal and professional development of your staff, and work in line with the Methodist Action supervision policy to ensure safe and best working practice.
  1. Maintain a good working knowledge of relevant legislation and policies to ensure the continued support of service users. To ensure that vulnerable people are protected through knowledge of Adult and Child Safeguarding Procedures.
  1. To be familiar with the requirements of the CLG’s ‘Quality Assessment Framework’ and their accompanying Guidance Notes. To monitor and review the progress of the commissioned service.
  1. To facilitate statutory inspections of services, and work with your line manager and provider boards to propose and implement action plans.
  1. Attend any relevant multi-agency meetings as required, develop and maintain good working relationships with all relevant voluntary and statutory agencies, and partner organisations, and promote the floating support service in a positive manner.
  1. To have access to a car and be prepared to travel to support your staff in all parts of North and South Lancashire as required.
  1. To work flexibly as required, this may require some evening or weekend work, and be part of the emergency on-call rota.
  1. To operate within DISC’s Charter of Service Standards, and report all problems promptly to the Director of Operations.
  1. Undertake any other duties which are deemed to be within the spirit of the post.
  1. To liaise with, and make referrals to external agencies to meet the needs of service users who need additional assistance from other services.
  1. To contribute to the future development of the service.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

It is in the nature of the work of Methodist Action (North West) that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances, unpredictable and varied. Each staff member is, therefore, expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises, when tasks not specifically covered in their job description have to be undertaken. Such additional duties would normally be to cover unforeseen circumstances or changes in work and would normally be compatible with the regular type of work. If the additional responsibility or task becomes a regular or frequent part of the member of staff’s job, it will be included in the job description in consultation with the member of staff.

Employees will undertake other duties which may be required from time to time by the CEO particularly resulting from membership of the Senior Management Team.

It is expected that all Methodist Action (North West) employees will understand that our work is confidential and that personal details must not be divulged to members of the public. This obligation will continue indefinitely even after termination of employment. All approaches by the media or other third parties must be referred, unanswered, to the CEO.
