·  A whiteboard to show the video on
Starter
·  Whole class activity: Show the video http://www.teachers.tv/videos/3-2-1-go-britains-olympic-games
·  While they are watching, ask the pupils to write down key facts about the story. How many spectators does the Velodrome hold? What is the reason behind its design? How many builders did it take to finish it? What do the athletes think about it?
·  Briefly discuss the history of the Olympic Games and their importance (see link 1). Ask the pupils what they think of the Olympic Games. What do they mean to them?
Main activity 1
·  Whole class activity: Ask the pupils to imagine they are a spectator watching the games. How do they feel? What’s the atmosphere like? Write key words on the board. Next, ask the pupils to each choose their favourite Olympic event. Ask them to imagine they are at the start, about to begin the race/jump/swim. Now how do they feel? Write key words on board.
·  Pair work: Ask the pupils to choose their favourite three words off the board. Ask them to imagine they are just about to go into the stadium to compete. Using these three words, write three sentences describing how they feel.
Main activity 2
·  Independent activity: Acrostic poetry: Ask each pupil to write the word Olympics down the side of the page. Pupils should write a poem about how it feels to be racing in the Olympics, starting each line with the appropriate letter. Encourage the pupils to use the words on the board and be as passionate as possible.
Plenary
·  Independent work: Pupils should ask a family member or family friend what their proudest moment is. What did they do and how did they feel? Write a few paragraphs describing this.
