AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO HONOR GIBBS CANCER CENTER IN SPARTANBURG ON BEING AWARDED A THREEYEAR TERM OF ACCREDITATION BY THE COMMISSION ON CANCER OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS AND TO CONGRATULATE GIBBS ON RECEIVING THE COMMISSION ON CANCER’S OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR 2013.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg was recently awarded a threeyear term of accreditation by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons, as well as the Commission on Cancer’s Outstanding Achievement Award for 2013; and
Whereas, this accreditation, granted by a consortium of national leaders in cancer treatment, prevention, and research, recognizes Gibbs Cancer Center as one of the nation’s top cancer programs. Gibbs has been consistently reaccredited by the CoC since 1938 because it shares the organization’s standards of quality, strong research, and survivorship; and
Whereas, in addition, its most recent CoC Outstanding Achievement Award gives Gibbs Cancer Center the distinction of being a threetime recipient of this prestigious accolade; and
Whereas, Gibbs Cancer Center is a nationally recognized cancer treatment and research facility associated with the National Cancer Institute Community Cancer Center program, the Medical University of South Carolina, and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Network; and
Whereas, with sites in Spartanburg, Gaffney, andGreer, Gibbs is a proven leader in providing effective cancer treatment through advanced technology, professional expertise, and an exceptional level of personalized care. The Gibbs oncology program, which also includes the BeardenJosey Center for Breast Health, has been recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as offering highquality cancer care. In 2012, Gibbs joined forces with Bon Secours St. Francis Health System to expand worldclass oncology services and clinical research in the Upstate; and
Whereas, grateful for Gibbs Cancer Center’s dedication to exceptional patient care, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in applaudingthe center’s latest accomplishments, accreditation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons and the center’s recognition as recipient of the Commission on Cancer’s Outstanding Achievement Award. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg on being awarded a threeyear term of accreditation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons and congratulate Gibbs on receiving the Commission on Cancer’s Outstanding Achievement Award for 2013.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Gibbs Cancer Center.
