Job Title: Supporter Development Manager / Job Holder: TBA

Reports to: Head of UK Individual Supporter Development
Responsible for: Supporter Development Executive
JOB PURPOSE: Briefly describe the overall purpose or function of the job
  • Plan, implement and evaluate activities to achieve UK Individual Supporter Development KPI’s. Using a financial expenditure budget of c. £ 600 K at the start of the FY, to achieve certain KPI’s at the end of the FY. Main five are – cash income, cash-to-commitment conversions, commitment upgrades, lapsed commitment reactivation, and GAD’s.
  • Make strategic and tactical decisions to achieve these KPI’s. For example, the best ways to use direct mail, telephone and e-mail, both ‘stand-alone’ and integrated. Also, targeting of supporters for various campaigns, creative, and production.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1 / 30 % / Planning –
Working with Head of UK ISD, to ensure these activities take place as planned within the expenditure budget and with the desired results. Management of time-schedules and budgets, evaluation and learning from previous activity. For example,
deciding how to use direct mail and/or telephone and/or e-mail
deciding who to target for campaigns ; who, when, how often
deciding what creatives to use and in what circumstances
managing production so that costs minimised and efficiencies maximised
2 / 20 % / Implementation –
Ensure work is done on time and to the budget. Follow-through on plan for each campaign. Deal with changes as and when to ensure overall timing is not compromised. Manage all external suppliers ( such as printers and also creative agencies ) as well as internal contacts ( such as database admin team, sourcing material and sign-off
3 / 30 % / Evaluation –
Lead responsibility for reviewing all campaigns ‘formally’ (writtenreport). Both numbers via spreadsheets and commentary via word docs. Learn what worked (and why). Learn what did not work (and why). Apply those learnings for future campaigns within UK ISD. Share this knowledge within UK ISD if applicable.

JOBHOLDER ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: In a series of brief statements identify the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours required.
Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
  • Essential -extensive experience of Direct Marketing, including both strategic planning and tactical implementation, as well as reviewing campaigns.
  • Preferable - previous charity experience
  • Preferable – university degree, or equivalent
  • Preferable – experience on client as opposed to agency side

Skills (Special Training or Competence):
  • Very good and practical understanding of all elements of Direct Marketing, such as media, production, and creative
  • Good communication skills
  • Good analytical skills ; the ability to interpret and learn from ‘numbers’, the results of activity
  • Good organisational skills, ability to see jobs through from beginning to end, from planning to implementation.
  • Good skills in handling detail, data and using one’s own judgement
