POSITION: Case Manager

DEPARTMENT: Transitional Shelter / Emergency Shelter

SALARY LEVEL: $14 - 16

DESIGNATION: Non-Exempt; Full Time 40 hours per week

HOURS:Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 8pm (Hours may vary according to program needs.)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Shelter Manager, assists in the implementation and overall operation of the Transitional and Emergency Shelter. Participates in all aspects of program services and activities, for staff and volunteers, to ensure attainment of the agency’s mission and goals. Supports the healing and well-being of residents by providing crisis intervention counseling, safety assessments, completes shelter housing intakes, and/or provides appropriate referrals. Position is primarily at the transitional shelter and as needed at the Emergency Shelter.

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Shelter Residents:

  • Manages a caseload of clients assigned by the Shelter Manager, providing, crisis counseling, conflict resolution and case management support.
  • Participates in case consultations with staff and supervisor to monitor residents’ goal plans and program participation and recommend interventions and/ or referrals as appropriate, based on client needs.
  • Conducts open groups, structured closed groups with residents at the Transitional Shelter and Emergency Shelter (DV group, Parenting Skills, Life Skills, Resume-writing, job search, and housing information/referrals)
  • Provides direct services and transportation based on client needs, including child care while adult residents access services at the site.
  • Communicates regularly with residents and addresses any concerns.
  • Assists in the implementation of all operation procedures of the Transitional Shelter to meet agency goals and program objectives, consistent with Strategic Plan.
  • Interviews, processes, and orients new residents utilizing agency intake procedures. As well as, conduct program exit meetings with residents.
  • Monitors resident’s adherence to all program procedures and house rules.
  • Transports clients on a company vehicle as needed. Arranges for residents’ transportation and provides emergency transportation, if needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, orderliness, safety and sanitation of the shelter through supervision of residents in their household duties. Maintain the cleanliness of office, restrooms, kitchen, and all agency facilities as needed.
  • Provide translation services as needed.
  • Files child abuse reports as needed.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation for all services provided.
  • Maintains supplies, inventory/miscellaneous office duties/donations.
  • Plans with staff to develop new programs and program revisions.
  • Monitors and implements safety and security procedures.Participates in monthly fire/earthquake drills and provide safety training.
  • Assists with scheduling property maintenance and repairs.
  • Represents the agency at community meetings and obtain resources to build partnerships.
  • Secure operational agreements through collaborations with housing authorities and homeless providers
  • Under the direction of the Shelter Manager, oversees the program operations through the Coordinated Entry System
  • Attends agency-wide and program staff meetings to maintain communications and program direction.
  • Assume responsibilities for operation of the Transitional Shelter in the absence of the Shelter Manager.
  • By the end of each shift completes required service notes for all services provided and completes intake paperwork for incoming residents. Keep written and statistical documentation complete and up-to-date in compliance of all contracts.
  • Additional duties and special projects may be assigned, as necessary.

Shelter Maintenance:Conducts weekly House Inspections, cleans and organizes offices, staff restrooms, storage units as follows: Clothing Donations - Washes and sorts clothing by size/age/gender, food donations - puts away and sorts food by expiration date, and Toys & Misc. Donations - puts away items and organize by age/group. Cleans and organizes apartments units as needed.

SECONDARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attends mandatory agency meetings and site specific meetings and trainings.
  • Supports residents in adherence to and understanding of “Resident’s Rights and Responsibilities.”
  • Distributes clothing, personal items and medication to clients.
  • Document information on each client, maintain written records and reports.
  • Conducts outreach presentations on an as-needed basis.
  • Assists with filing paperwork, updating electronic files, creating worksheets.
  • Assist with hotline calls as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in behavioral or social sciences
  2. Twoyear experience as a case manager and/or working with survivors of domestic violence highly preferred.
  3. Experience in crisis counseling, de-escalation techniques, and/or conflict resolution highly preferred.
  4. Certification in the 40-hour domestic violence counselor/advocate training required by the State of California, or must complete within 3 months of employment.
  5. CPR Certification & TB Clearance
  6. Bilingual required: English/Spanish.
  7. Able to provide client transportation. Valid CA driver’s license and auto liability insurance required.
  8. Good written and oral communication skills.
  9. Good computer knowledge and skills. Excellent knowledge in Microsoft Excel desired.
  10. Able to work as a team member and have good interpersonal skills. However, you will mostly work alone, so you must have the ability to take initiative and work independently and productively with minimal supervision.
  11. Sensitivity to victim’s issues and needs.
  12. Strong leadership skills and ability to lead when needed.
  13. Available by telephone.
  14. Has not been a client of Su Casa or any other domestic violence agency during the previous 12 months.
  15. Clear state and FBI criminal background check.
  16. Able to lift and sort items/donations and climb stairs.
