Post:AD:EPT2 Family Support Worker (Part time)

Background to the project:

AD:EPT and AD:EPT 2 (Throughcare)drug and alcohol service is a multi component addictions service based in the three establishments of the Northern Ireland Prison Service.

AD:EPT drug and alcohol service aims to address the drug and alcohol issues of service users of all age groups through a variety of interventions including casework, group work and counselling. AD:EPT 2 aims to support service users in the difficult transitional period between custody and the community. It has a particular focus on problem alcohol users.

Background to the role:

In consultation with the Team Manager and colleagues, the post holder will be required to successfully deliver a range of services to support families and significant others of individuals leaving custody with alcohol problems.

To successfully implement the care plan of each family/ significant others who are participating in the service and to ensure good running of the service and to contribute to its development and in particular:

Start360s role profiles are based on recognised national occupational standards, which list the required competencies to perform a particular job.

Main Responsibilities

  1. To develop new and innovative methods of working with families/ significant others who are impacted by alcohol misuse.
  2. To carry out detailed assessments of families/ significant others’ identified needs.
  3. To ensure the health, safety and welfare of all families/ significant others is paramount at all times.
  4. To participate in minuted staff, team and project meetings on a regular basis.
  5. Provide regular progress reports to the line manager.
  6. To identify professional development opportunities and share with the team.
  7. To participate in conferences, courses and meetings organised/ arranged by the service when required to do so.
  8. To assist in the organising of group and individual activities and to meet the identified needs of families/ significant others.
  1. To help develop and maintain effective communication links with statutory, community and voluntary organisations.
  2. To work alongside management implementing an individual and group programme of care involving the families/ significant others social/ emotional and physical welfare.
  3. To participate in monitoring and reviewing individual and group programmes of learning and maintaining records as required by the service.
  4. To liase with all other appropriate persons involved in the programme offered.
  5. Evaluate the impact of your own work.
  6. Contribute to the overall evaluation of the service.
  7. To support family members of individuals leaving custody with alcohol problems.
  8. Develop and sustain arrangements for joint working between workers and agencies.
  9. Travel to where clients are and engage with them in an appropriate place.
  10. Recognise triggers of substance misuse and refer to the specialist services if required.
  11. Adhere to the lone-working policy and carry out risk assessments.
  12. Support family members to better integrate into their community.
  13. To carry out other responsibilities that may be required, as commensurate with the post.

Records Management

All Start360 employees are legally responsible for all records held, created or used as part of their business within Start360 including client, corporate and administrative records whether paper based or electronic and also including emails. All such records are public records and are accessible to the general public, with limited exceptions, under the Freedom of information Act 2000, the Environmental Information regulations 2004 and the Data Protection Act 1998. Employees are required to be conversant with Start360’s records management and to seek advice about it if in doubt.

Pay and Terms and Conditions:

Salary:NJCPts 28 -31 (£24,472 - £27,123) Pro rata

Hours:Part-time (30 Hours per week) inclusive of evening work and occasional weekends which will be paid on a TOIL basis.

This post is funded for 1 year.

Holidays: 25 days per year, this increases after 5 years to 27 and to 30 days after 10 years’ service (Pro rata). This also includes 12 statutory days, 1 birthday day and 1 Christmas shopping day.

Probation:You will serve a probationary period of 6 months.

Waiting List:A waiting list may be compiled for any similar temporary or permanent vacancies that arise in the next 12 months.
