Tiger Woods Learning Center to Host

Activate Anaheim Healthy Resource Fair on October 23

ANAHEIM, CA — Tiger Woods Learning Center will host the ACTIVATE ANAHEIM Healthy Resource Fair on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The event will be held from 8:30am-1pm at Tiger Woods Learning Center located at 1 Tiger Woods Way Anaheim, CA 92801.

This free community event will feature fun and educational workshops, healthy snacks, and a number of activities designed to encourage families to get active, eat right, and utilize the healthy resources available in Anaheim. Attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably to enjoy the many activities. Workshops begin at 9am and 10am.

“We are appreciative of Tiger Woods Learning Center for their contribution and initiative in launching this event, the first of many we have planned to help Anaheim residents discover simple ways to walk more, eat right, and make smart and healthful choices” said John Guastaferro, Anaheim YMCA Vice President and Activate Anaheim Coach.

Activate Anaheim is part of the national ACHIEVE initiative, sponsored by the Center of Disease Control and other national organizations. The group’s local CHART (Community Health Action Response Team) is comprised of representatives from the Anaheim Family YMCA, Tiger Woods Learning Center, City of Anaheim, Anaheim Police Department, Disneyland, local school districts, Kaiser Permanente, The Gas Company, and others. “Our vision is to implement policy/environmental strategies that make it easier for Anaheim residents to engage in daily physical activity, eat nutritionally-balanced diets, and make positive choices that lead to longer, healthier lives” adds Guastaferro.

Some “Activate Anaheim” Tips

·  Replace a work break with a brisk 10-minute walk.

·  Get off the bus one stop early and walk the rest of the way.

·  Eat seasonal fruits and veggies since they are fresh and less expensive. Farmers Market is in Downtown Anaheim on Thursdays.

·  Reward child with non-sugary treats, such as stickers or a family activity.

·  Walk or ride your bike in Anaheim parks and trails.

·  Play with the kids – tumble in the leaves, splash in a puddle, or dance to music.

This event is made possible by funding from the Employees Community Fund of Boeing California to the Tiger Woods Learning Center.
