Programme Title

Let’s Play With Numbers

Programme Outline

In Maggie’s playroom, children are having fun together with the puppet, Feebee.

First of all, Maggie takes them to fishing. The children enjoy seeing the birds and the fish on a boat and sing a lovely song about numbers.

Then, Maggie takes them to a beach where the children enjoy playing on the sand, dancing and swimming. Not only can they practise counting the things they see on the beach, they also learn about words that begin with the letter ‘s’, for example, sand, sun, sea, ship, etc.

When they return to Maggie’s playroom, they have a special surprise from Feebee. What do you think the surprise is? What has Feebee prepared for the children?

In this programme, pre-school children can practise counting and learn about things they see on the beach that begin with the letter ‘s’.

Suggested Activities

  1. Encouragepupils to count from 1 to 10. Teachers can put a number of objects on the teacher’s desk, for example, books, rulers, school bags, etc and ask pupils to count how many objects there are on the desk.
  2. Teachers can bring to the class pictures of the beach. Teachers can ask pupils whether they have ever been to the beach and encourage them to talk about what they see and do on the beach. Teachers can also write those words for example, sand, sea, swim, sun, etc and encourage the pupils to read them together, with special attention to the letter ‘s’ that each word begins.
  3. Encourage pupils to sing the two songswhile watching the programme.
  4. Pupils complete Worksheet 1 and Worksheet 2. In doing Worksheet 2, teachers can read out the names of each picture to draw pupils’ attention to the first letter of each picture.
