Research Technician

Parkland Crop Diversification Foundation (PCDF) is a non-profit applied research organization that is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of local producers and business people.

PCDF’s goals are to increase profitability, sustainability and adaptability of local farms; accelerate the adoption and commercialization of research innovation at the farm level; facilitate the adoption of technical innovation or practices from outside of the province or country; and improve the overall growth of the agriculture, agri-food and agri-product sectors. Transfer of knowledge is a priority and project results, technical information and emerging opportunities are accessible through annual reports, field days, tours and display booths at agriculture trade fairs. Financial support is provided through Growing Forward 2, a federal-provincial-territorial government initiative.

PCDF is located at Roblin, Manitoba, Jewel of the Parkland. Roblin is nestled between Riding Mountain National Park and Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Roblin is a thriving community that has a number of amenities to offer its residents.

PCDF requires a Full Time Research Technician to provide support to the Diversification Specialist and Diversification Technician, employees of Manitoba Agriculture and Rural Development (MAFRD). The responsibilities of the Research Technician includes equipment operation and maintenance; land preparation and maintenance; spraying and chemical application; conducting research projects for a number of clients from the public and private sectors; data collection and management; sample harvesting and processing; annual report drafting; and extension work including summer field day, tours and agriculture trade fairs.

The requirements of the position includes a strong knowledge of agriculture and crop types, experience with equipment operation, Diploma or Degree in Agriculture would be preferred but equivalent experience will be considered, excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently or part of a team. A class 5 drivers’ licence is mandatory but a class 3 upgrade will be required for hauling equipment to other locations.

The position is compensated with a competitive salary that will be determined by the individual’s experience and skill set. A benefit package is available for discussion.
