MOTHERS WHO KILL THEIR CHILDREN
Donald R. Fox
How terribly sad! Deanna Laney killed her sons with rocks. She believes that God told her to commit this crime. She also believes that the mother who killed her five children, Andrea Yates, was driven by God to commit such like crime. Laney described these horrific acts were part of God’s plan described in the Book of Revelations. Both women are driven by delusions that go beyond the Word of God.
Mark this down; anytime people believe that God speaks direct to them in a “wee small voice," this goes beyond the Word of God. God speaks to men through the written word. History is filled with false prophets who claimed this direct operation of God speaking to them. The Mormons, the Spiritualists, the Adventists, the Pentecostals, the Jim Jones’s, etc. all claimed revelations that go beyond the Word, and they all contradict each other.
The Apostle John admonished Christians not to go beyond the Word. “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1 KJV) The only way to “try the spirits” is by using the Word of God. Men contradict each other; only the Word is true and fixed. Furthermore, see Paul’s directions to the Galatians in Chapter 1 verse 6-9.
Laney and Yates killed their precious children to obey God! I cannot think of anything sadder and sicker than these acts. Sadly, this is what happens when people believe falsely that God speaks to them in dreams and a “wee small voice” that go beyond the Word of God, the Bible.
The heresy of God speaking direct to people goes back to the early days of Christianity. Montanus and his followers (170 A. D.) claimed through revelations that went beyond the written Word. Montanus was branded a heretic because of his deceitful teaching. Will people every learn to stay within boundaries of the Word of God and reject these “wee small voices” and “revelations” that are taught by many religious movements and misleading teachers?
“Now these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes; that in us ye might learn not to go beyond the things which are written; that no one of you be puffed up for the one against the other.” (I Corinthians 4:6 ASV) (Underlined for emphasis. DRF)
