5.Title of Topic:
“CADAVERIC STUDY OF SHRINGHATAKA MARMA”
6. BRIEF RESUME OF INTENDED WORK.
6.1 NEED FOR THE STUDY:
Marmacomprises of Mamsa,Sira,Snayu,Asthi & Sandhi on which the sustains of life depends. It is evident that if any injury occurs to a Marma it may lead to either deformity or even death. Marmas are enumerated as 107 in our classics.1
Marmas are classified in to fivecategories based on its Parinama (effects of Injury).Out of these the Sadhyapranahara Marmas are considered more important than others andany aghatha (injury) over the Sadhyapranahara Marma will lead to death of a Person immediately, further any aghathaover the Kalanthara Pranahara Marma causes death after lapse of some time. One may survive in vishalyagna marma aghata but death will occur followed by removal of foreign body, Injury on Vaikalyakara will lead to physical disability to which a person has to bear throughout his life.1
Urdwajathrugathabhaga plays a very important role because of the seat of Prana both structurally and clinically.4 The SiraMathruka, Sankha, Shringhataka and Adhipathi, these four Marmas are considered as the Urdwajathrugatha Sadhyapranahara Marmas. Their numbers are 8,2,4 and 1 respectively.1
Among these the Siramathruka and Shringhataka are the Siramarmas and Sankha is Asthi variety, Adhipathi is comes under SandhiMarma.2
At the Meeting Place of Orifices of the Tongue, Nose, Eyes, Ears and Palate is the Vital spot by name Shringhataka. These are 4 in number and SadhyaPranahara according to Acharyas.2
Although the Gross, Regional and the Viddha laxanas are described in the Samhithas, the detailed description of particular structures which are involved in forming Shringhataka Marma region is lacking in the ancient texts. Yet no cadaveric study has been conducted till now with relation to Shringhataka marma. Whatever the study has been conducted till today only on the basis of available literatures and understanding and interpretation with the modern science. This has attracted me to carry out the Cadaveric study through dissection, for exploring the extent, nature and particularstructures of Shringhtaka Marma which is going to enhance our knowledge and highlight the dark areain this topic. This is going to be very helpful for Practitioners, Scholarly persons and Academicians etc.
6.2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE:
Sushruta samhita:
In Sushruta samhitha sareerasthana 6thchapter, Acharya Sushrutha has explained the Shringhataka marma is Urdwajathrugatha Sadhyapranahara Marma1.
Charaka samhita:
In Charaka samhitha chikitsasthana 25thchapter Acharya Charaka mentioned that the importance of shiras because the seat of Prana
Astanga Hridaya:

6.3Objectives of the STUDY:
1.To study the Shringhataka Marma
2.To explore the extent, nature & particular anatomical structure of Shringhtaka Marma with the help of Cadaveric dissection.
7. MATERIALS AND METHODS:
7.1 SOURCES OF DATA:
MATERIALS:
1. The literarature on Sadhyapranahara marma will becollected from the Brihathrayi’s, Laghuthrayi’s and other Classical texts including dictionaries, Journals, Presented papers, previous dissertation works done etc.
2. Regional anatomical study of Shringhataka Marma will be done on Cadavers in Dept.of Rachana sareera, NKJAMC & PG Center, Bidar.
3. The method of dissection has explained in Cunningham’s Practical Anatomy is followed inmaximum.
7.2 METHODS OF COLLECTION OF DATA:
The present study depends upon the cadaveric dissection. For this purpose the relevant information about the shringhaaka marma will be collected from the classical and modern text books, national and international journals, magazines, seminars, conferences, Internet material, previous works done, presented papers etc. So we have to examine critically and important informations have to be discussed & analyzed scientifically to approach the objective as such. Since having no clinical design of study the collection of clinical data is not needed.
7.3 DOES THE STUDY REQUIRE ANY INVESTIGATIONS TO BE CONDUCTED ON THE PATIENTS / ANIMALS? IF SO, PLEASE DESCRIBE BRIEFLY:
No. As the study is carried out on cadaver.
No clinical and animal experimental study will be conducted.
7.4 HAS ETHICAL CLEARANCE BEEN OBTAINED FROM YOUR INSTITUTION –
Yes obtained.
