Parking: Since I teach from my home, please observe the posted neighborhood speed limit of 25 mph and all road signs so as to minimize any problems caused by me teaching in my neighborhood. We have many neighborhood children…please watch for them and make their safety a priority! Please park only in my driveway and never in the street. This will also prevent any issues with mail delivery or garbage pickup.
Arrival and Departure: Please arrive no more than 5 minutes prior to your child’s scheduled lesson time. Enter the pool through the gate located to the right of the driveway as you face the garage. Do not attempt to go through the front door as I will be in the pool & not in the house answering the door. Following your child’s lesson, please change him and try to leave as soon as possible as this will reduce traffic congestion in my driveway and keep the noise level from the lessons at a minimum so as not to disturb the neighbors.
Bathroom use: I do not have a bathroom that can be directly accessed from the pool area. Use of my bathroom is for emergency only as it can only be accessed through my master bedroom. Please ensure that your child uses the bathroom prior to coming to lessons. If your child must use my bathroom, please accompany your child and use the Clorox wipes on the back of the toilet to clean up if necessary. Please put any used wipes in the trash not the toilet so as not to clog the septic system.
What to Bring to Each and Every lesson:
- Bathing suit, and swim diaper. No child may enter the pool wearing a disposable swim diaper.
- BUDS sheet!!! This form would have been provided to you in the email accepting your registration . ISR insurance regulations require that I review your child’s BUDS sheet before each and every lesson. NO BUDS=NO LESSON! If your child is under the age of 31 months you must fill out a BUDS sheet and show it to me prior to each and every lesson. If you are required to fill out a full BUDS sheet and do not have one, I will have extras available for you to fill out. Since I must see this prior to swimming your child, this may mean that your child will have a shorter lesson that day as I endeavor to stay on schedule out of fairness to each and every child.
- 3 clean towels. This insures the health of your child and all other children
Dietary Restrictions:
- No food or drink at least 1 hour prior to lessons.
- No dairy/milk products for at least 2 hours prior to lesson.
- No apples or apple products, pineapples, papayas, passion fruit, peaches, spinach, honey & celery in any form during the period your child is involved in ISR lessons Please check labels on fruit juices as many brands such as Juicy Juice contain apple even though the juice may be called something else .
- Please refer to Chapter 2 in your Parent Resource book for more information on the importance of diet.
What to expect at your child’s 1st lesson: Your child’ 1st lesson will likely be shorter than normal as this may likely be my first opportunity to meet you and your child. I may review your registration and will answer any questions prior to getting your child in the pool. Once in the pool, if you child is under 1, he or she will be introduced to the backfloat. For those over 1, we will spend most of the lesson working on learning to rely on the poolside for security and establishing proper breath control, meaning your child will learn to close his or her mouth prior to going underwater.
CRYING is not uncommon. Children are being introduced to a new person and skill and there is often crying associated with this learning process. Many but not all children will cry less as they become more familiar with me and more confident in their skills. Your attitude as the parent/caregiver is key. If you react negatively to you child’s crying and your child sees you upset, your child will take his or her cue from you. You want to project a positive attitude showing your child you are confident that he can learn and that you are proud of his efforts. Smiling and clapping works great! At the end of the lessons your child will be placed on 2 of the towels that you have brought on his left side and covered with the 3rd towel allowing for a brief resting period following the lessons.
Videotaping of student Lessons: ISR requests that videotaping of your child’s lessons be limited as follows:
- A student’s first lesson or first refresher lesson upon returning
- Friday lessons may be recorded every week
- You may record your child’s lesson in clothing
- No video may be posted to a public sharing site such as You Tube, Facebook etc. without the consent of ISR and your instructor.
The purpose is to protect ISR’s proprietary technique and discourage others not trained in our technique from attempting to emulate what our instructors do in the water.
Training of ISR Student Instructors: I have been a Master Instructor with ISR since 2002. It is my responsibility both to mentor and train ISR instructors and I have trained 16 instructors over the past 5 years. In Middle Georgia, effective swimming lessons for young children are extremely limited. Last season, I was thrilled with the response to ISR and with the growth of our program Nationally. I expect the demand for lessons as well as the demand for instructor training to continue to increase. It is possible that your child may be swimming during a time when a student instructor is training as it appears likely that I will begin another training in early summer. ISR requires that all student instructors spend 60 plus hours working hands on with students, under the direct supervision of a Master Instructor for a minimum of 5 weeks, in preparation to teach their own students. In order for more children to have the benefit of this amazing program, I ask your patience and understanding anytime that a student instructor is in the water with me. Please know that I will still be directly supervising all aspects of your child’s lesson experience. Please let me know if you have any concerns regarding this or any other concerns relative to lessons as well.
Illness: If your child has any of the following symptoms, he or she will be unable to have lesson
- fever of greater than 100.5
- diarrhea
- vomiting
- anything highly contagious ex. Pink-eye, impetigo, etc.
Missed Lessons: You may miss 2 lessons without charge under the following circumstances. There will be no other refunds for any additional missed lessons.
- If your child is sick, please call or email to let me know.
- Other personal reason ex. Vacation day, appointment, etc. (24 hr notice required)
***Due to the number of students that I swim each day, I cannot accept verbal communication poolside regarding planned absences so please either email or call. All other absences will not receive credit.
Instructor Cancellations: I will notify you in advance of any planned absences due to holidays, vacations or other personal reasons. There will be no charge for any lessons that are cancelled by me. If I must cancel due to my own illness, I will call and let you know.
Weather Conditions and/or other last minute Cancellations: Occasionally, lessons must be unexpectedly cancelled. The most likely cause of this will be weather related however, occasionally, I will cancel due to my own illness, or for other personal reasons. Reasons for possible weather related cancellation include:
- Outside Temperature below 60 degrees at lesson time or pool temperature below 78 degrees.
- Rain may cause a lesson to be cancelled if it is moderate to heavy or if the outside temperature is considerably cool.
- Lightening and Thunder: ISR protocols require that no lesson be given if there has been thunder or lightening at the pool within a 30 minute time frame.
****Please choose a notification method in order to receive prompt notification of any last minute lessons cancellations. With over 30 students, it is very time consuming to try to make contact by dialing a work, home and multiple cell numbers so please choose one or if necessary more of the notification methods listed below should lessons require a sudden cancellation: If you have a concern about whether lessons may be cancelled, please check the following in order to verify whether lessons are in fact being held.
- Twitter: Joining is free and you can receive email or text (cell phone) status updates from me regarding lessons. This is the easiest way for me to quickly notify you of any cancellations.
- Check your email: I have a group set up for my current 2009 families. If I need to cancel, I will email as soon as possible. If you would like to receive notice at multiple addresses, please just let me know.
- Check my Facebook group Miss Victoria’s ISR Swimmers.
- Send a text message requesting this form of notification to 478-538-6810. Also indicate if you are a Verizon customer as this will enable me to text you from the Verizon website, my preference since my texting skills are still being developed….

Safety of Children not in Lessons: Please watch students before and after their lessons. I do not have a pool safety fence so please ensure that children stay back from the pool area if not in lessons. Siblings or other children in your care are welcome but must follow all rules. No children may play on the trampoline in my backyard due to health and safety concerns.
